Coal India, DVC, SAIL Hq move away from the city before. I hope this govt and its leaders doesn't act so submissive under infront of Central govt. If centre is serious about reducing regional imbalance it must start shifting PSU hqs or atleast some major operations to East India.

West Bengal had many national bank headquarters once. Some of them got merged in recent times. When BJP got to power I thought there will be some attempt to shift some PSU or Banks headquarters to Kolkata. But instead the opposite happened. Various attempts were made to shift

Banking giant State Bank of India is moving three more departments from Kolkata to Mumbai as part of its ongoing centralisation strategy. The affected units are linked to the bank's Global Market operations, continuing a migration trend that has accelerated over the past two years. SBI says such relocations are driven by operational requirements and administrative efficiency.

The move follows earlier decisions to shift parts of the Global Market Unit (GMU) and Centralised Global Back Office (CGBO) from Kolkata. Banking unions and civil society groups have opposed the transfers, arguing that they weaken Kolkata's historic role as a major financial hub. Notably, Kolkata was home to the Bank of Bengal, the largest of the Presidency Banks whose legacy eventually became SBI.

Only thing can save Jute Industry is to find markets in foreign country. In India the western lobby will never allow their plastic/polymer industry to be replaced by Jute packaging. If the Jute Mills even open there will be lock out issues at regular intervals.

Government of West Bengal has directed officials to begin the process of reopening around 10 closed jute mills across the state, aiming to restore employment and revive production in one of Bengal's oldest industries. The move follows a review of mills that have remained shut due to financial, operational and raw-material challenges.

The initiative could benefit thousands of workers in the jute belts of Howrah, Hooghly and North 24 PGS, where mill closures have historically impacted local economies. Bengal has previously used tripartite talks involving the government, management and unions to restart several shut mills, making the latest push a significant test for the sector's revival.
