Richie Saunders represents everything great about BYU, loyalty, commitment, work ethic and teamwork.
He’s one of the greatest players in Cougar Hoops history.
His quick and deadly three point shooting and ability to finish around the rim are elite skills.
His rise from role player to Big 12 Most Improved Player/1st Teamer to All-American candidate has been inspiring to watch.
Long live the Tater Tot King!
@RyanQualtrics Tell Tony to honor his signed Contract with Dave Hunter and pay him back. I love Tony’s story and Tony has always been great to me and you have as well you but Tony needs to give credit where credit is due because without Dave backing him at a young age, this story might be a whole lot different. Dave has just been thrown under the bus. 🤷🏼♂️

A kid learning to golf in his garage in Rose Park, Utah to becoming the face of Jordan Brand Golf. This is magical on so many levels. Congrats @tonyfinaugolf
Thinking about the amazing time we are in with BYU sports it’s time we as fans give Brian Santiago his flowers! He has made BYU basketball great for the last 20 years! KY doesn’t come to BYU if it wasn’t for Brian. In his first year with football we are in the BIG12 championship game (11-1). He has Kalani signed and NIL money ready to keep improving! This doesn’t just happen….As a BYU Alumni, Brian is the one that keeps us all connected to the program! His capacity to take care of all the alumni, boosters, etc is not normal. We are teed up for an incredible run. Be grateful for those doing the work and where BYU sports are right now! Go cougs!
B Sant was a big time hire! The dude knows what he’s doing and takes care of his own. BYU sports is climbing to another level nationally! With the amount of pressure having your top two Sports Programs top 10 in the country, B Sant has had a lot of pressure and keeps rising to every occasion. He gets things done!
Have we considered that B Sant is actually a super genius that orchestrated this whole thing? Think about it…a week ago what are the greatest things that could ever happen to BYU football? Kalani stays forever and is super happy, he has incredible funding for his staff, an NIL war chest, and upgrades to the facilities and stadium.
In my mind, there’s NO WAY that Brian left Kalani hanging and / or sent over a low ball offer. It makes no sense. He wouldn’t do it nor would his EXTREMELY SAVVY circle of advisors let him do it. So it has to be a play to get BYU to the next level. Look at what happened with basketball - absolute chaos ensued after the Pope departure and that created an opportunity to take BYU to incredible new heights of buy-in. So why not re-create the chaos for football?
If all of those things come to fruition then B and Kalani just pulled off the greatest move in BYU athletics by a mile and I’m not kidding I believe that’s how it went down.
To all BYU fans—speaking from experience as a former student-athlete (under very different circumstances)—navigating negative publicity is brutal. BYU athletes are under a unique microscope, both culturally and institutionally, that most programs don’t deal with. The pressure is real.
Before jumping to conclusions, let the facts come out. Judgment without truth does more harm than good. Support doesn’t mean denial—it means staying grounded until the full story is known.
I truly hope that when all is said and done, this becomes a learning experience—for Jake and for all athletes—that in today’s world, you have to be extremely careful, intentional, and wise with every decision you make.
A statement from Brigham Young University:
"BYU became aware today that a civil lawsuit involving Jake Retzlaff had been filed this morning. The university takes any allegation very seriously, following all processes and guidelines mandated by Title IX. Due to federal and university privacy laws and practices for students, the university will not be able to provide additional comment."
Refs should be interviewed after games just like players and coaches. If they can impact outcomes, they should be held accountable. Grading systems should be public. Fans deserve transparency.
Last year, there were games in the tournament that I was certain the officials would not advance. I was completely wrong. I know all three in this Duke Arizona game. Good guys but tough night. They’ll advance.
