Arsenal looking to play BVB Dortmund and Como in the home pre season friendlies. Nothing finalised yet but they are the main front runners with one potentially being the Emirates Cup game.
Potential dates are 9 Aug & 12 Aug (TBD)
If Arsenal are genuinely considering moving Ben White on and bringing in a younger right-back to develop behind the current options, then Alberto Costa is a name that deserves serious attention.
Personally, I wanted Arsenal to push for Palestra because I think he has massive potential, but with him seemingly heading to Inter Milan, the club should be looking closely at Alberto Costa.
What I like about Costa is that he is not one of those modern full-backs who look good in highlight compilations but struggle when it comes to the defensive side of the game. He is an aggressive, athletic, traditional right-back who actually enjoys defending. Those profiles are becoming harder to find.
He is a powerful ball carrier who constantly drives down the right flank, gives his team a reliable attacking outlet, and has the engine to keep doing it for 90 minutes. The guy covers an unbelievable amount of ground every game. Whether it's overlapping runs, recovery sprints, or tracking runners, his work rate is outstanding.
Defensively, he's exactly the type of profile Arsenal have lacked depth in. Strong in duels, solid in 1v1 situations, aggressive when stepping into challenges, and rarely looks physically overwhelmed. He combines athleticism with defensive awareness, which is something a lot of young full-backs struggle to balance.
What surprises me is that his name barely comes up when Arsenal fans discuss right-back targets. Everyone wants the flashy names with big price tags, but sometimes the smartest signings are the ones that fit the system, fit the age profile, and still have plenty of room to develop.
For me, Alberto Costa ticks a lot of boxes. Young, hungry, athletic, defensively reliable, and capable of providing width and penetration going forward.
If Arsenal are planning for the future at RB, this is exactly the kind of signing they should be exploring before the rest of Europe catches on.
