IT'S A VICTORY OF DEMOCRACY
direct democracy... straight from the streets.
It's a victory of peace, patience & persévérance.
Congratulations CJP, Gen Z of the nation and thank you all citizens for shedding fear and the fear of fear and rising up from every corner of the nation.
FROM ACCOUNTABILITY, NOW TO REFORMS
The @Wangchuk66 detention case raised serious constitutional and legal questions that deserved a judicial answer by the #SupremeCourtofIndia not just an executive retreat. It brought into focus core safeguards against misuse of the NSA.
From reliance on truncated videos and incorrect transcripts, suppression of crucial exonerating material, incorrect reliance on stale FIRs and extraneous material, to glaring non-application of mind by the detaining authority by passing a detention order which was a complete verbatim copy-paste of the police recommendation- the case exposed how preventive detention can slip into arbitrariness.
Most concerning was the 28-day delay in furnishing the most relevant relied upon videos in violation of the 10 day statutory timeline prescribed under Section 8, NSA—striking at the heart of Article 22 protections and the detainee’s right to make an effective representation.
The executive stepped back, revoked the detention, and in doing so acknowledged its error. That course correction matters. But the judiciary should have also risen to the occasion especially as was indicated by @AmitShah, our Honourable #HomeMinister. A reasoned judgment here could have set a strong precedent—clarifying standards, reinforcing safeguards and sending a clear signal against procedural and substantive lapses.
Moments like these are opportunities for constitutional courts to “grow taller”—to transform individual injustice into lasting jurisprudence. Without that, systemic ambiguities remain.
If India aspires to be a Vishwaguru, it must not only correct mistakes but also articulate principles. The law grows strongest when institutions rise to the occasion together.

‘Everyone must go to jail once in a lifetime, not for a crime but for a cause!’ @Wangchuk66 speaks to me after spending 170 days in ‘preventive detention’. Listen in
After a long time had a free flowing chat with @Wangchuk66 without glancing at the scary clock every now and then to make the most of the fleeting 60 minutes as in jail!
Taking him for a health checkup as per the strong recommendations of our family doctor. He will be under medical observation for 36 hours in a good hospital!

#SeemaSays | In this episode, @seemay talks about the continued detention of @Wangchuk66 - 150 days in jail with no trial despite a habeas corpus plea, raising serious questions about personal liberty and democracy. | @Minal_Saeed_K
Absolutely ridiculous that he was detained in the first place. Imagine randomly detaining an activist for almost 6 months and then saying actually we've got nothing on him to detain him. Blatant violation of Human Rights, ideally the govt should compensate him
Habeas Corpus
Glad to see Sonam Wangchuk has been released. He was detained under NSA and spent close to six months in jail. Doesn’t deserve just a bureaucratic statement that clearly shows grounds for detention were flimsy and wouldn’t have stood legal scrutiny BUT an unqualified APOLOGY!🙏
Govt revokes detention order of Sonam Wangchuk after keeping him in Malafide detention for 6 months only because he was leading a peaceful movement for greater democracy for Ladakh; & kept seeking repeated adjournments for 4 months in the SC in his Habeas Corpus petition!
There are many things to be said about the wrongs done to our elder brother @Wangchuk66 , but today is not a day for grievances.
Today, I am simply overwhelmed and super super happy 😊 😊

Shame on Modi Govt
This is clear now that Central Govt had literally No Evidence to keep him inside the jail.
All the false propaganda against Sonam Wangchuck was getting exposed in SC each day.
Who will pay back for months of jail to this innocent man who tirelessly worked for India and its people ?
