@medicalmodelbri @Shr_Nottingham I believe (but may be wrong) that the referral goes under the named consultant on the system, even if it is the PA requesting - likely a loophole to get over the legal aspect.

If its genuinely a consultant asking for the scan, and the PA is doing the admin part then that is ok

@BeckyHall016 @Melissa_S_Ryan @jamesmurray_ldn Yes absolutely. I will often back PA colleagues as I see where they add value in very specific circumstances, under supervision. But your take is so far off.

The reality is a PA (even after 10 yrs) has not even had 10% of the training a ‘newly qualified’ GP has.

@medicalmodelbri @DrStephenHarden Surely all CT scans need to then be accepted by a radiologist / senior radiographer (and perhaps xrays too, depending on local policy) - so one would hope it’s not purely the decision of the PA

Patients still can present very late with symptoms, and even slow growing cancers may have advanced locally or spread by the time of referral - that’s why the only ‘safe’ path is treating all as 2ww

@czbikerchick @anaesthetic_spr FYI yes I’m an actual GP, leading on training approx 100 med students annually within a primary care setting. Affiliated with a local university who consistently rank top across a wide number of metrics.

Also train a host of AHPs - eg PAs, nurses, paramedics, pharmacists.
