It’s annoying that we realize children need a summer break and several vacations a year because they attend school, but we think it makes sense for adults to work 40 hours a week all year and probably get 2–3 weeks off in a whole year if you’re lucky.
I genuinely think workdays should be 10am–3pm or 9am– 2pm. There’s no reason for people to spend most of their lives at work. Let people go home and have time for their families, partners, friends, and rest. That’s why everyone is so miserable today
WHY ARE WE SO QUICK TO ASSUME POOR PEOPLE WILL TAKE MORE THAN THEY NEED, BUT SO QUIET ABOUT THE PEOPLE AT THE TOP WHO HAVE ALREADY HOARDED MORE THAN ANYONE COULD EVER NEED?
PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME LIKE I’M FIVE.
When someone can’t afford rent, we immediately hear:
“Stop buying fast food.”
“Skip the $7 latte.”
“Make coffee at home.”
“Cut out avocado toast.”
But when a company says it can’t afford to pay workers enough to live?
Nobody says:
“Maybe buy one fewer private jet.”
“Skip the third yacht.”
“Perhaps don’t buy another mansion this year.”
Why is the person struggling always expected to sacrifice the little things they enjoy, while the people at the top are never told to sacrifice anything?
I’m genuinely trying to understand the logic.
Imagine if enough people got tired of endless price increases and started buying DVDs, Blu rays and physical copies again. We could genuinely bring back neighborhood video stores and turn movie night into something you actually had to leave the house for. The old rental era had a charm that streaming never managed to recreate.
“nobody wants to work anymore” is such a funny thing to say
people just don’t want to:
• spend 2 hours a day commuting
• barely see their kids
• work their whole life just to afford rent
• get fired with zero warning
• work 50 hours and get paid for 40
people aren’t allergic to work
they’re tired of giving their entire life to a job just to survive
fix the system, not the workers.
