On Caste Census and Reservations India’s reservation system is the world’s greatest illusion, a mass delusion. Every unemployed person from the general caste believes they are jobless solely because of reservations. Those from reserved castes who have secured government jobs think their children’s future lies solely in reservations. Those from reserved castes who haven’t gotten jobs believe that they or their children will definitely get one, and only through reservations. No one ever considers the total number of government jobs advertised each year versus the number of youths reaching employable age annually. It’s hard to find a greater example of mathematical dissonance. Even the combined total of government and private sector jobs each year is insignificant compared to the number of youths entering the job market annually. India’s and its youths’ future lies only in industrialization. But in India, a job means a government job, and there’s an illusion that reservations guarantee government jobs. So, we burn buses and trains for reservations, but never for economic freedom. Even India’s educated don’t understand what wealth is, why some countries are rich and others poor, what a job is, why jobs exist, how salaries can be higher, or why they are low in India. Every Indian demands jobs from the government, and socialist leaders win elections promising jobs, only to destroy jobs and make everyone poorer. The result of poverty is that people demand even more reservations, and those who haven’t benefited yet also start demanding them. Imagine there’s one roti (bread). Many in the world said, “Divide the roti equally, and the problem will be solved.” But when Russia tried this, the roti vanished entirely, and even those who were getting some got nothing. Despite killing around 4 million Russians, no roti was produced. In the USA and many European countries, they said, “Make your own roti and eat it.” No government permits or licenses are needed to make it. As a result, so many rotis are made that they go to waste. Humans need nothing from the government except the freedom to make their roti and the assurance that neither the government nor anyone else will snatch it to redistribute. If this happens, so many rotis are made that there’s surplus. Yes, not everyone’s roti is equal—some make more, some less, some good, some burnt. In India, everyone says, “Let the government make the roti for us and give us our fair share.” Consequently, there’s always too little roti, leading to snatching and demands for reservations. This happens because the government can never make rotis. It’s not about intentions, corruption, or the lack of good leaders or bureaucrats. The government simply cannot make rotis. Just as monkeys cannot make computers, no matter how good their intentions or how hard they work. Even in a country like the USA, when the government started dictating roti quality or mandating that some be given to the poor, roti production faced problems. Caring for the poor without rotis is the responsibility of society, families, and communities—not the government—and they have been doing so traditionally. India needs a movement for complete economic freedom. Until there’s full economic freedom, protection of private property, and a culture of honoring commitments, movements for reservations will continue, people will keep starving, and youths will remain frustrated and unemployed, ready to fall into the trap of any revolutionary. Study economics. Honor your word. Don’t covet others’ property.
