Thank you to the FIFA administration for suddenly this morning delivering what was owed to our players and coaching staff, for the Jordan National team’s accession to the final of the FIFA Arab Cup in Qatar last December.
This was funding that should have been received 8 months ago.
While this is a good development for our players, it does not change the serious concerns we in the football world have regarding the FIFA leadership, nor does it change what our FAs have been subjected to in the past.
It is symptomatic of those exact difficulties that we all face, and that are usually linked to the FIFA presidential elections. And it does not change my clear position concerning the leadership of FIFA: my FA and I will not endorse president Infantino, nor will we vote for him.

Today I join others from across our game and call for Gianni Infantino to resign as FIFA President.

Infantino has debased the office that he promised to elevate. He has lied, deceived and tried to feather his own nest at the expense of the game he is supposed to serve. 

He has lost the support of his senior staff, his closest advisers, the vast majority of people who devote their lives to this sport and even, it would seem, the FIFA Peace Prize winner. 

It is too late to save his dignity but it is not too late to save football. He should go. Now.

La @FIFAcom de Infantino corre el riesgo de matar a la gallina de los huevos de oro: exprimir tanto el producto que termine erosionando aquello que hizo del Mundial el evento deportivo más importante del planeta.

Infantino está consiguiendo algo que ni los peores escándalos de la FIFA lograron: que millones de aficionados hablen más de sus ocurrencias que del futbol.

Amplió el Mundial para vender más partidos. Multiplicó las pausas para vender más publicidad. Intentó imponer restricciones absurdas al uso del español en conferencias de prensa en un Mundial organizado por países hispanohablantes. Todo parece subordinado a una sola prioridad: recaudar más.

El futbol dejó de ser el centro. El negocio es el centro.
