I think I just clocked a scam. This probably targets car owners.

I got a text saying I committed a traffic offense, clicked on the link (my first mistake cause why didn't I look through the link) received, it stated I did a 92 in a 60.

Knowing fully well I don't even reach 80 anywhere, decided to check frsc official website then I realized the text had frsac instead of frsc dot govt

It is only in Nigeria that I see people genuinely LOVE TO DEFEND THEIR OPPRESSORS‼️

And I genuinely want to understand why.

I’ve been subscribing to MTN 1TB plan since 2021.

When I started, I think it was around ₦90,000 and then it became ₦100,000. I would subscribe, and that 1TB would comfortably last me 10 – 11 months.

And I wasn’t exactly a light user.

I streamed Netflix and Prime video, my movies I download with 1080p. I’m constantly online, I never turned off my data.

At one point, I was even arguing with my friends who were buying Starlink.

I’d tell them, “Why are you buying Starlink? I have 1TB on MTN. I’m comfortable.”

You can see a screenshot below, I was defending MTN, I averagely consume 100GB per month, even at that rate, 1TB still last me for 10 Months.

Then MTN started eating data like there was no tomorrow.

The same 1TB that used to last me almost a year suddenly started struggling to last 4 – 6 months.

Now 100k can't even buy 1TB anymore lol.

Eventually, I switched to CSS Fiber at ₦21,500 and I get unlimited internet for a month and I even get a faster internet than MTN had ever given me.

So when I come to the comments and see Nigerians defending MTN, I genuinely don’t understand it.

- “Check your Google Photos.”

- “Your apps are running in the background.”

- “Maybe you’re streaming too much.”

Okay.

Let’s assume all of that is true.

Why can't we ALSO hold MTN accountable for the fact that their data now disappears significantly faster than it used to?

Why do we always rush to find excuses for these companies instead of demanding that they investigate the problem?

Nobody is saying your phone doesn't consume data.

Nobody is saying background apps don't consume data.

The question is: Why has the experience changed so drastically?

Because I know what my data usage used to look like and I know what it looks like now.

MTN knows too.

Yet instead of asking them questions, Nigerians will start doing detective work on behalf of a multibillion naira company. 😂 Same company that's turning over Billions in profit every year.

- Network they don't give you.
- Subscription fees has been increased.
- Airtime and Data is running like water.

Yet, some bloody twats are still defending their OPPRESSORS.

And this is bigger than MTN.

It is the same mentality I see when people talk about Lagos being dirty or smelling.

Instead of saying, “Yes, maybe it's not every part of Lagos, but the government can do better,” people immediately start defending Lagos.

- “Other states are worse.”

- “It doesn't smell everywhere.”

- “Go back to your state”

Why can't we simply hold our government accountable and demand better?

Even if Lagos isn't the worst city in the world, it can still improve.

Even if MTN isn't the only reason your data is disappearing, they can still be held accountable for the quality and value of their service.

Accountability isn't hatred, if you criticise a company you pay for doesn't mean you hate the company.

Demanding better from your government doesn't mean you hate your country.

It means you know you deserve better.

But Nigerians will defend these institutions with their whole chest, even when they are the ones paying for the service and receiving the short end of the stick.

And that's the part I genuinely don't understand.

Why are we so quick to defend the people THAT ARE OPPRESSING YOU?

Why do we look for EXCUSES FOR THEM before we even ask them to do better?

WHY DO NIGERIANS LOVE DEFENDING THEIR OPPRESSORS?
