@boxtunnelpod I will defend season 4 of US in comparison to the rest of the show, not to UK. They obv never came close to that
But I was very surprised when I reached s4 and all of a sudden most of the annoying stuff from before was ... gone? It was almost character driven???
@boxtunnelpod Heavy, true. But I do feel that's in the spirit of the season? In my view, it's the darkest and heaviest of all 5. Hopefully our take on it is ... appropiately heavy? Or maybe that's just me, heavy is kind of my vibe ๐๐
@boxtunnelpod Okay, what kind of fight though? A literal fight, fists and fangs? Hal wins. Chess? Also Hal. I can't imagine any fight Hal wouldn't win actually, except a tumblr poll maybe.
@ARLaffar She was the voice of reason and continued to ground the show when it could have gotten lost in the supernaturalness of it all and I am forever grateful to her. She was so important and desperately needed.
@boxtunnelpod@ARLaffar You're very right. In my defence though, I am very much a) not british and b) neurodiverse and often just don't get stuff in general๐ (and no, I honestly do not get the refence even now, someone please explain ๐)
@thetreehugger_ @dobbys_a_wh0re The funniest thing about it was actually that Annabel Scholey, aka Lauren from s1, is part of the main cast in this and his character belongs to her storyline. My brain exploded every 5 minutes.
@dobbys_a_wh0re @damienmolony Thank you! โค๏ธ You know, back in the day when Toby was still on twitter, he commented very nice things on this and now that he's gone I'm just so happy I've got a screenshot๐
This drawing is about 7 years overdue as I fell in love with @TobyWhithouse's and @damienmolony's Hal of #beinghumanuk back in 2013. And when I say love I mean a deep feeling of kinship for this wonderfully odd, unconventional and anxiety-ridden character. โค๏ธ #eternallygrateful
@dobbys_a_wh0re @thetreehugger_ Alright so I went back into the interview with Toby on my S4 DVDs and there's a whole section on casting Hal. He doesn't give an exact age, just "in his 20s". And what I said previously, that he was probably the hardest character to cast ever.
@thetreehugger_ @dobbys_a_wh0re Completely get that feeling, and Hal definitely seems and looks a bit older than 21. I think I remember reading/hearing/whatever that that was the trouble with casting him though. They needed someone really young looking to portray someone really old seeming.
@thetreehugger_ @0p0sitiv You're absolutely right, it's The Cry Of Horror that's most hurtful about this whole thing. A bit of queer sympathy, please? Obv I know the books can be read differently. But they can be read ace, too. It reminds me of fandom a few years back, it was just like that, awful.
@0p0sitiv @thetreehugger_ I think it's because historically gay stuff on tv was always sexless, so that changing is an important achievement. I just think that isn't the best source material to enforce that or at least it didn't have to be. To me, treating it like sex in tvc is only logical is the offense
Thank you so much for having me, I had a great time! For an hour we ramble on about witch hunts, impulsive decisions and the symbolism of sunlight or whatever. Also, my fear of everything, apparently. Vampires = Freedom!๐ง
