@jakub_steiner Putin has no reason to strike them. But war is chaos, lots of things happen unintentionally and accidentally. And I don't think anyone was in doubt about the EU/Western position in Ukraine. So I hope there is indeed a political (and not just emotional) benefit
I am honored to join the "Czech Digital Team", an advisory board on digitization convened by the Deputy Prime Minister. Looking forward to discussing the digital transformation that our economy and society are undergoing.

For anyone who wonders today if anything they do matters, here’s a paragraph by CS Lewis that helps me.
It’s part of a sermon at Oxford in 1939, titled “Learning in Wartime”.
At the Ukraine solidarity demonstration in Prague: A poignant moment as the crowd chants "nejste sami" ("you are not alone") after the 🇺🇦 ambassador speaks. In 1968, Soviet tanks crushed the Prague spring right here.
@ed__ley English headline-writing (with its unusual grammar & emphasis on short words) is always so confusing. When I first saw the headline I thought someone had attacked their neighbours with an axe after living next door to them for nearly 40 years.
@M_B_Petersen @RIBernhard @JaeJaeykim2 We argue: sorting into "echo chambers" can sometimes improve communication, since people can actually talk to similar others, whereas putting everyone together => shouting matches with little info content (like on Twitter).

@SDullien@IMKFlash More seriously, the reporting is part of the explanation. More/better media reporting leads to fewer deaths, but more deaths not necessarily to better reporting. Good &trusted journalists are a nonpharmaceutical intervention, like lockdowns. Saxony/Czechia/US have fewer of them
If you are in Oxford (or have internet access) on 9 March 2022, you can hear me talk about why everyone sells your data, what it means for society, and how we might regulate it.
(It's a lecture for the general public, though I think twitter users are also welcome)

A covid trilemma. We want three things this winter:
1. Few or no restrictions (esp for vaccinated)
2. Few deaths and functioning health sector
3. Everybody can choose freely whether to get vaccinated
Many European countries can pick any 2 out of these - but probably not all 3
