Nine years ago tonight, Makram Ali finished his Ramadan prayers and started walking home.

He never made it.

Makram Ali. 51. Finsbury Park, North London. 19 June 2017.

He came to the UK from Bangladesh aged 10. Married. Four daughters, two sons, two grandchildren.

He collapsed on the pavement from a weak leg. He was sitting up, talking, asking to go home.

Then Darren Osborne drove a van into the worshippers gathered to help him.

Makram died in his daughter's arms.

His family asked one thing: that people know who he was.

"Our father was a quiet, gentle man."

"He spent his whole life without any enemies, choosing a quiet life instead."

"He was always ready to make a funny joke when you least expected."

His daughter Ruzina: "He never had a bad word to say."

And then she named it: "We lost our humble and much-loved father due to an act of racism and hatred."

Osborne was convicted of murder. The judge found he was driven by hatred of Muslims.

A man with no enemies. Killed for his faith on his way home from prayer.

His family did not answer hatred with hatred. They said the actions of one person can never reflect a whole people.

That is who they buried.
That is who was taken.

Remember his name.
