‼️ I am announcing legal action against Claudia Macero, David Smolansky, Emmanuel Rincón, Orlando Avendaño, and other members of María Corina Machado’s digital “Swarm” for carrying out a campaign of defamation against me.
They took advantage of the fact that, as a journalist, I independently secured an interview with Delcy Rodríguez thanks to people I met in Washington, with absolutely no connection to the Maduro regime. Although they have not even seen the interview—which, as I warned them, is filled with tough and uncomfortable questions—they have used it as an excuse to publish false headlines, directly or indirectly claiming that I have been paid by the regime. I encourage them to publish the evidence that supports this false allegation.
They launched this campaign against me because I have reported accurately on the direction the Trump Administration has taken in Venezuela since the arrest of dictator Nicolás Maduro. They also targeted me because I refused to write stories dictated by María Corina Machado’s team or to repeat their surreal narratives.
I have also provided U.S. authorities with evidence demonstrating the coordinated campaign they have carried out against the United States Government—a country that has given refuge to some of them—which has obstructed President Trump and Secretary Marco Rubio’s plan to restore prosperity and democracy to Venezuela.
Through a network of influencers, journalists, activists, and bots funded through digital wallets, foundations, or business figures—whose activities are already under investigation—they have dedicated themselves to falsely accusing Trump Administration officials, such as John Barrett, of being paid by the Maduro regime. They have promoted false information and memes designed solely to exploit the tragedy of the earthquake in order to fuel outrage and encourage protests outside the U.S. Embassy at a time when the priority should have been saving lives.
This constitutes a campaign of political pressure against the national security interests of the United States, carried out by these operatives—most of them foreign nationals—who are not registered as lobbyists under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
I want to thank the individuals who were part of this group and who have provided information about its activities.
I once again challenge these four individuals to immediately publish any evidence that the Maduro regime finances me, as they have claimed to other journalists and media executives.
This mafia-like network has gone as far as pressuring my employees to resign and intimidating advertisers into withdrawing their support from my media outlets, which they have also slandered.
“You need to stop supporting him, or you’re going to lose your reputation,” is one of the messages they have sent. That is nothing short of blackmail.
They will undoubtedly use this lawsuit to portray themselves as victims and claim that I am persecuting them. The reality, however, is that I respect all forms of criticism except those involving reputational attacks based on allegations for which no evidence exists.
Those who claim to fight the Maduro regime have turned out to be just as intolerant, showing no respect whatsoever for freedom of the press. If this is how they behave while in the opposition, imagine how they would act if they were ever to take power.
Everything has its limits. See you in the cours of Florida.
