Hot take, but I think this update is really about giving everyone a fair shot.

Opportunities shouldn’t depend on where you’re from, they should come from the value you bring. And honestly, if a company won’t consider you because of your location, is that even somewhere you’d want to work?

On the flip side, I do want to know where my own team members are based. It helps me understand them better, support them properly, and build an environment where they can do their best.

The racism that’s come with this feature rollout is definitely not it but the feature itself feels like a step in the right direction.

this is a bigger problem than many people think honestly

a lot of us were able to secure jobs because we were not sharing where we're based or are from

because as you may know third world countries are treated quite differently from the rest of the world

i know because i was unfortunately in that situation myself as well when i needed the job the most

and now that it's doxxed, it's a lot different.

sure you can still go over to settings/privacy and turn that off but i'm almost certain there are ways to use X API to find out about your information either way, even if you have it disabled publicly, and even if you have VPN on

i understand that X most likely did it due to regulations, but web2 and web3 worlds are quite different

web3 is a lot smaller compared to web2, it wouldn't be hard to compile a list of crypto people from specific country, find out about their identities, where they live, what they do and target them

in conclusion, this basically endangered most of us, not a big fan of this update
