Blind boxes or Dark boxes?
Blind boxes are not new. Anyone who’s collected toys or cards knows them and has probably bought them at some point.
What we’re seeing in crypto lately aren’t really “blind boxes” but it’s closer to dark boxes.
Because collectors are kept in the dark.
Serious figure/card collectors actually respect blind boxes when:
- the odds are transparent
- the set structure is clear
- and the mechanic serves the IP + story, not just the project treasury
The good part of a dark box is simple: even entry price, uneven outcomes. Everyone pays the same, some get lucky. But that is also what a casino is.
As someone who collects physical figures, I collect with intent.
I want to know:
- what I’m chasing
- what my odds are
- how I can improve them
- and if I miss, can I just buy the thing I actually want?
Simply put, I’m not against randomness.
What I’m against is opacity.
I care about completing sets.
- Can I get all 10 Strawhats?
- Can I get every version of Luffy across each arc?
With a dark box meta, I don’t even know what the full set really is.
And yes, this is crypto, a lot of it behaves like a giant casino. But for projects that already have strong cultures and real collector bases, wouldn’t dark boxes dilute that culture?
To me, dark boxes often feel like a way to hide fundamental flaws in a set.
If the set is genuinely well-designed, why not run a proper blind box with clear structure and odds?
Randomness is awesome. I say it again, I love blind boxes.
But there has to be a method to the madness.
As a collector, where do you stand:
Blind boxes, dark boxes, or no boxes at all?
Crafting the @ponkehq Bloky was both a unique opportunity and a challenge. We see Ponke as one of the true pioneers of crypto content, a community built around top-notch creativity and expression.
We’ve seen Ponke play golf and serve burgers; whether it’s their GM posts or market memes, there’s always that effortless charm and mischief that makes Ponke, Ponke.
So how do you capture that in a Bloky?
Well, who’s more effortless, charming, and mischievous than a gangsta?

Crypto is for everyone, and no one embodies this better than @coingecko
While traditional finance evokes haughty uptight suits, Gecko feels like a friendly neighbor who may be simple on the outside but has a stack to be envious about.
The Gecko Bloky aims to capture the free spirited and carefree life that symbolises the financial independence of today. Keen eyes will spot a Rex cameo, too.
Incredibly proud to have been able to faithfully create a Gecko blocky!
Also a huge shoutout to the @coingecko team, they are amazing partners to work with! watch this space for more updates!
