My ability to judge the quality of a banana's insides based on its outsides is significantly behind where I would have expected it to be at this point in my life
@MurrayHillGuy1 join my petition to Hinge to use this for match radius? We could finally expand to capture the West Village without pulling in LIC, Astoria, and Greenpoint chicks
🌟 Get true reachability calculations with the Isochrones API.
This API calculates the area you can reach from an origin point within a set amount of time — but unlike a radius, it accounts for actual road network travel times ➡️ https://t.co/q01DZA6T0X
🇪🇺 This year the European Union will again make more money from fining US tech companies
Than from the total tax income from Europe's own public tech companies!
Even without ideological conditioning from the model companies, a left-leaning bias arises from the data sets used to train these models.
Think about the primary sources of both pre-training data and RAG data for responding to political questions. From a volume perspective, Reddit and Wikipedia make up meaningful portions of these data sets, both of which have a left-leaning bias. From a perceived credibility perspective, academia and major media publications have a left-leaning bias as well.
Then consider how xAI ranks with the highest representation of right-leaning perspectives. xAI uniquely has access to X data, which formed a right-leaning bias for political commentary after Elon's acquisition and the exodus of left-leaning users to Bluesky.
Of course, RLHF can introduce its own biases or attempt to correct these biases, but the models can only ever be as good as the information they have experienced. If you scrape Reddit, Wikipedia, newspapers, and academic journals, then the responses will have more access to left-leaning answers than right-leaning ones.
When WaPo poses "political questions", the source of the data to support responses is coming from those types of sources where the volume of political commentary and activism skews to the left. Those perspectives are just overrepresented in the data set, since more people on the left engage in producing that type of data.
The data created by people with a right-leaning bias is typically overrepresented in small business, agriculture, trades, defense, religion, and sports data, which would not surface when prompting specifically for political questions.
Political questions typically prompt responses that pull from sources such as academia, journalism, nonprofit advocacy groups, organized labor, environmental sciences, social sciences, public health, public sector administration, government law, and policy activism, which are all professions with overrepresentation of left-leaning biases compared to the broader population.
🇪🇺 Chat Control has passed 😔
They can and will now legally scan any person's messages, emails and photos you send without a warrant
The way they passed this law when the majority of the European Parliament was against it will shock you:
They waited until most EP members were on holiday so only a few were present and then created an "urgent" vote for it to pass it through
There's nothing democratic about any of it and big powerful forces are behind this that can manipulate the EU for whatever they want
Democracy in Europe died a bit today 😔
@BrendanNyhan Idk if anyone else was curious what metric they were using to sort the students in this chart to have this result, but
It's sorted by their average grade in the class. The midterm grade was voided. The final grade was 80% of the class grade.
I won't deny that it is a passable designer for web design, but it still falls short for logos or branding.
After reading this, I passed our brand identity to Fable 5 Max, and after churning ~$10 of tokens, I was stuck in a dead end of generic logos that looked like loading spinners.
We paid a designer on Fiverr $80 for a logo 2 years ago, and I have yet to find any model that can even come close
Seeing the privacy measures they are putting in place at MSG, I would be surprised. TMZ has reported all guests signed NDAs and all invitations were individually watermarked to limit leaks. She has also reportedly turned down multimillion dollar livestreaming and broadcasting offers.
However, she is reported to be filming the wedding with her own film crew.
If I were to bet, I would say that she will drop a new album (that she is rumored to be working on currently). Then release documentary-style footage of the wedding as promo to announce a wedding-themed concert series at MSG.
At least that's what I would do haha
England has some of the highest bog coverage of any country, yet the Democratic Republic of the Congo contains the world’s largest bogs in absolute terms. Not sure who to support here
@EigenGender@Lux_Stella_ The Fed released $2.5t of cash into the economy in 2023 and 2024
The equivalent of sending a $9,250 check to every adult in the US
A president doing that as an executive action would face a lot of public scrutiny, but the Fed can just do that and no one notices
