2. "OLP is a profitable and working business, until proven otherwise"
Don't disagree, very lucrative business model, but the issue with this statement is the "until proven otherwise" portion is generally catastrophic. Very Thanksgiving Turkey graph.
For example, @HyperliquidX would have absolutely printed fees during the GME saga; OLP could have potentially blown up depending on how much flow was internalized.
Saying it's picking up pennies in front of a bulldozer is overly alarmist, but people need to realize that this is effectively betting on a market making desk avoiding tail events in an industry full of tail events.
Being long $HYPE or $LIT is saying "I'm long perp volume and volatility". Fees are up only.
Being long $VAR is saying "I'm long Variational's ability to properly hedge volatility and risk". You're essentially an LP in a delta neutral quant MM firm with very positive expected value, but you're implicitly exposed to tail events and operator risk.
$HYPE fell 15-20% during the JELLYJELLY incident; $VAR would have likely suffered much, much more.
I would absolutely still deposit money into OLP because it's still effectively betting on the "house", but the @variational_io model, and likely the $VAR token by extension, is inherently more vulnerable to massive, one-off impairments and black swan tail events.
