Been getting lots of "is @dubinvest dead" because of Robinhood Social since last night...

Here's my response:

First, it’s validating to see Robinhood launch something in our space. It shows they view what we’re building as threatening enough to their core business that they feel the need to copy elements of it. And also a recognition of dub's success since last year when @Cookie at TechCrunch asked Vlad about dub and he dismissed copy-trading and what we're doing.

Second, their approach is very different. Robinhood Social is built for active traders: people who already trade heavily, want to showcase their moves, and replicate the feel of Reddit or X but with real trade verification. Even their “copy” function is manual: you have to follow each trade one by one.

dub is built for a completely different audience: the majority of people who don’t have the time, experience, or desire to become active traders. Most investors are better off letting experts manage money for them. That’s why the asset management industry exists. In that sense, we’re competing more with the Vanguards and Fidelitys of the world than Robinhood.

That’s why dub has automatic copy-trading. Instead of manually chasing trades, you mirror every future move of the Creator you follow. And instead of copying individual trades, you’re copying a real, strategy-driven portfolio, which is closer to a mutual fund or hedge fund than to meme-stock trading. The goal isn’t fast, short-term bets that active traders engage in. It’s pursuing sound, long-term wealth building that's the right way to invest for the vast majority of Americans.

dub does have a social element, but it’s about learning directly from the experts you’re copy-trading, not engaging in a trading chatroom. We were inspired early on by the narrative-driven investing boom of 2021, but dub has evolved far beyond that. Our mission is to help all Americans invest the way the ultra-wealthy do: by trusting experts to manage money on their behalf.

Finally, Robinhood Social could even become complementary to dub (@vladtenev lmk). Their best active traders might one day become Creators on dub. IMO the companies that should really be worried are platforms like StockTwits, which Robinhood’s product overlaps with most.

Bottom line: Robinhood Social is a niche product for hardcore traders. dub is a mass-market product that makes investing simple, automatic, and accessible to anyone with as little as $100.
