An amazing list of papers for systems lovers &| learners

[Indranil Gupta @indygupta]

It's a truly fascinating time to be working in Distributed Systems! Here's a reading list of 70+ Distributed Systems papers *mostly from conferences in just last 2 years*!

[TimescaleDB (by Tiger Data) @TimescaleDB]

Remember Insights from yesterday? We used Timescale to build it: collecting +10 billion records a day, up to +350 TB in a single database & counting.

This is our company’s largest dogfooding effort ever.

#PostgreSQL can scale.

Learn how we did it: https://t.co/NwjlYnCz4y

[Ilya Miskov @ilyamiskov]

This video by Apple is a true masterpiece. I come back to it every once in a while, and I still love it.

[Daniel Ellsberg (Memorial) @DanielEllsberg]

Pundits are out praising my father as a way of denouncing @snowden, @xychelsea, Assange, and modern whistleblowers by comparison. Daniel is on record vehemently rejecting praise of him used for this cynical purpose. Media, please at least mention that fact. --Michael E. 🧵⬇️

[Glenn Greenwald @ggreenwald]

US funding for war in Ukraine in 9 months:

Mar: $ 13.6 billion
May: $ 40b
Nov: $ 37.7b: Biden's new request

That $ 91.3 billion is 33% more than Russia's *total military spending for the year*

It's *double* the US's average annual expenditure for its own war in Afghanistan

[Aaron Maté @aaronjmate]

.@MaxBlumenthal & I were invited to @WebSummit, a tech-media conference in Portugal. They've now cancelled us, and make clear below that they bowed to pressure from those who oppose our journalism on the Ukraine proxy war.

Our detractors can't refute us, so they silence us.

[Glenn Greenwald @ggreenwald]

If you want to see how DC warps people, look at this behavior from Bernie's very-DC NatSec Advisor, @mattduss. He first heaped praise on the Ukraine letter. Then when House Progressives recanted and Bernie condemned it, he switched course: bashing it and blaming anti-war "NGOs":

[Liam McCollum @MLiamMcCollum]

Another incredible moment from @APDiploWriter. Matt asks Ned Price what the State Department sees as the difference between the Russian occupation of Ukraine and the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Their back-and-forth was lengthy, and other journalists doubled down on it after.

[Robert Wright @robertwrighter]

I had a great conversation with @sethharpesq about what he saw in Ukraine, why it's hard to get a clear picture of what's going on there, what he thinks US aims there are, and how things will likely play out. You can watch here or listen on @NonzeroPods. https://t.co/tcJvXpLWoL

[Steven Donziger @SDonziger]

My column explains what appears to be a stunning plan by the ultraconservative Supreme Court to lock in corporate control of the US government for generations. Might be the end of democracy as we know it.

Feels like a slow-motion judicial coup.

[Max Blumenthal @MaxBlumenthal]

UK Foreign Office operative @rwdburley calls for YouTube to censor @TheGrayzoneNews, libeling us as "a Russian propaganda outfit."

Besides spreading disinformation about The Grayzone, Burley mispronounces the name of @aaronjmate and appears to call for censoring @rustyrockets.

My @GitHub account was just suspended 🤷

Is writing an open source code illegal now?

Three Arrows Capital was one of the biggest crypto hedge funds, at one point managing over $10 billion in capital—

Until the founders dropped off the map.

A 1000-page legal document came out today, bringing clarity to the case.

I went through it. This is what I found:

[Michael del Castillo @DelRayMan]

JUST OUT: Whistle-blower Edward Snowden acknowledges he was the sixth person who participated in an elaborate 2016 ceremony that led to the creation of zcash, a privacy-protecting cryptocurrency now valued at $2 billion: https://t.co/EKEFqvFqX4 via @ForbesCrypto #CryptoBahamas

I never ask this, but I'm asking now: Please retweet this.

Texas plans to kill Melissa Lucio in four days. Five jurors say evidence was withheld from them. A bipartisan majority of the Texas legislature favors clemency. Why are you waiting, @GovAbbott?

[jack @jack]

the days of usenet, irc, the web...even email (w PGP)...were amazing. centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet.

I realize I'm partially to blame, and regret it.

[charlos @loscharlos]

Hi my name is Charlie and #LongCovid has destroyed my life. Today is two years.

Before my 'mild infection' I was a healthy fit 30 year old biking 10 miles a day. Now I can't work or leave the house. I still can't breathe right. It‘s a nightmare.

Here are my 4 questions:

[Chitradeep Dutta Roy @0xcddr]

@cryptodavidw I am trying to learn zero-knowledge proof systems, it would be awesome if I can contribute in some form while learning.

Retweet if you love $OHM.⚡️Ω🕊️
