🇪🇹One in 10 Digital Payments Fails in Ethiopia, NBE Official Warns
Ethiopia’s digital finance sector is booming, but it has hit a serious bottleneck. Speaking at the Huawei Finance Summit 2026, Dr. Naoll Addisu from the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) revealed that roughly 8% of digital transactions fail, often leaving users stuck between banks for months trying to recover funds.
While the country processed a massive 24 billion digital transactions in just nine months, the central bank warns that opening accounts isn't enough true financial inclusion means reliable, affordable access. Currently, 70% of rural Ethiopia is still on 2G networks, and fragmented systems like unlinked merchant QR codes are holding progress back.
To solve this, the NBE is pushing for major structural upgrades, including smart contracts, programmable infrastructure, and domestic cloud systems to secure the nation's financial sovereignty.
For local tech builders, the message is clear: the focus must shift from simply onboarding users to engineering the bulletproof, interoperable payment rails the economy needs to scale safely.

Organizing an initiative as massive as Ethiopian Blockchain Week 2026 is an incredible journey, but it also reveals exactly where we need to grow as an ecosystem.
Right now, our biggest challenges aren't technical they are structural:
1. The Connection Gap: We see so many local and international companies that would *greatly* benefit from connecting directly with their future customers, users, and tech talent at EBW. Yet, bridging that initial communication gap remains a hurdle.
2. The Collaboration Gap: To truly build a thriving tech ecosystem, we have to break out of our individual silos. Real innovation doesn't happen in isolation; it happens when developers, companies, policymakers, and community leaders actively collaborate and share resources.
The Bigger Picture
Ethiopia has bold, inspiring aspirations to become a leading African tech hub a vision strongly backed by national frameworks like the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy. But a tech hub isn't just built on paper or by a single team; it requires an active, united ecosystem. When global and local brands show up, collaborate, and invest in our community, it accelerates our entire country's economic and digital transformation.

🇪🇹|| MESOB App: The New Backbone of Ethiopia’s Digital Identity
Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli officially inaugurated the Unified MESOB Application at the Science Museum’s Digital for Excellence exhibition. Developed by the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, MESOB is Africa's first unified digital service app, combining 27 critical public services across multiple state institutions into a single platform.
This rollout directly complements Ethiopia's milestone of surpassing 5 million enrollments under the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders Initiative. By building its own AI-driven platforms, the state is rapidly reducing its long-term reliance on external, third-party software to power the domestic digital economy.
The strategy behind this initiative is that the government is laying down the digital rails, identity frameworks, and talent pools required for a modernized nation. For tech builders, the next big opportunity lies in engineering the secure, compliant applications that will seamlessly integrate with this newly established national tech foundation.

🇪🇹|| The Shift Toward a Regulated Digital Birr
Beyond infrastructure, a massive structural shift is quietly happening within Ethiopia's domestic financial strategy.
The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) recently released its draft National Digital Payments Strategy (2026–2030), actively steering the country toward a fully modernized, digital-first economy. Alongside this, the central bank has gained the formal authority to develop and issue a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), with early groundwork for a Digital Birr picking up major momentum.
For the local tech ecosystem, the takeaway is clear the government is heavily prioritizing financial digitization, but strictly through formal, institutional frameworks.
As state authorities transition from closed legacy systems into heavily regulated digital asset infrastructure, the doors are opening for compliant Web3 platforms to help bridge the gap.
The future of Ethiopian digital finance is being written right now and it’s completely institutional.

Ethiopia Rises to #8 Globally in Bitcoin Mining
Ethiopia has quietly become a global powerhouse in blockchain infrastructure, officially climbing to the #8 top country globally for Bitcoin mining. Powered by mega-projects like the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the country now commands roughly 2.6% of the global network hashrate.
The secret sauce? An abundance of sustainable, renewable energy priced at a fraction of global costs, combined with strong state support via Ethiopian Investment Holdings. Major international infrastructure firms have already deployed hundreds of megawatts near Addis Ababa.
As the nation executes its Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, the focus is clear: Ethiopia isn't just participating in the Web3 revolution... it is helping power its core foundation.
Wait is this real?
I spent a whole year working on $soso, teaching my community about their ecosystem, boarding people to the project and this is what I get?
I really hope the @SoSoValueCrypto team reviews all this and give us all what we deserve 🙏

BILLIONS WIPED OUT... TRADERS LEFT IN SHOCK AS THE BLOODIEST DUMP STRIKES AGAIN
Biggest privacy token $ZEC crashed over -50% in the last 24 hours, wiping out $5 Billion from its market cap.
The flaw was hidden inside Zcash's Orchard privacy pool since May 2022, remaining undetected for nearly 4 years despite multiple security audits.
Security researcher Taylor Hornby reportedly used Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8 AI model to build a working proof-of-concept that successfully generated counterfeit ZEC in local testing on May 29.
Although the bug was officially patched on June 2, the fundamental problem remains. Unlike Bitcoin, where anyone can instantly verify the total supply, Zcash's privacy design makes it completely impossible to audit whether fake coins were secretly minted inside the shielded pool before the fix.
The team denies that any fake ZEC was minted, but traders are panic-selling on the fear alone. Imagine a casino where someone secretly adds extra chips, but because of how the system is built, neither the casino nor the players can tell which chips are real and which are fake. To restore market trust, Shielded Labs is now urgently exploring a proposed Network Upgrade that would allow anyone to verify the integrity of the Zcash supply.
