🇪🇹|| Today is Election Day in Ethiopia!
Millions of citizens across the nation are heading to the polls today to cast their ballots and shape the future of our country.
Following the event everyone is talking about voting and trust. It always brings up a big question for tech enthusiasts:
"If blockchain is so secure and impossible to hack, why don't we just vote from our smartphones?"
It sounds like the perfect solution for a modern world, but national elections are much more complicated than moving digital money.
The biggest issue isn't the blockchain itself, but the devices we use. While the network is safe, your smartphone can still get malware or viruses that change your vote before it even hits the system. On top of that, physical voting booths protect your privacy. If you vote from home on a phone, someone could easily stand over your shoulder and force you to vote a certain way, or even buy your vote from you.
Finally, blockchain is famous for being permanent, meaning you can never delete or edit data. If a glitch or software bug records votes incorrectly, there is no way to "undo" the mistake without ruining the credibility of the whole election.
For now, even though blockchain is amazing for building the future of digital finance, traditional paper ballots are still the safest way to ensure a fair and trusted vote.

Web3 in Kenya still has a long way to go. As long as you need to 'know who is who' to land a deal, that's not decentralization that's the same old gatekeeping with new tech.
Real Web3 doesn't have VIP sections. Let's build it properly. 🚀

📈Ethio Telecom is now officially Live on the ESX!
It is official: Ethio Telecom is now on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) under the name $TELE. This is huge news for everyday people. Over 45,000 Ethiopians who bought shares using Telebirr are now real shareholders together, they own 10 million shares worth 3 Billion ETB.
The launch had some challenges and did not hit every high target, but that is normal for something brand new and this is the first time a massive government-owned tech company is opening its doors to public trading and clear accountability.
This is also a huge turn for our blockchain industry because it creates the digital plumbing needed to connect public markets with tokenized assets. It proves Ethiopia is ready for smart contracts and automated trade rails, building the ultimate bridge between traditional finance and Web3.
The digital foundation for Digital Ethiopia 2030 is finally active!

Today I did something exciting.
I was scrolling, curiosity hit. Who owns https://t.co/PCNCqajvnA?
Googled it. Nothing.
That's when the idea struck.
I bought it. Did the magic.
Ladies and gentlemen, without further ado.

Loving attending the MetaMask Community Builder Night in Nairobi! 🇰🇪 Amazing to see artists(Musicians) thriving in Web3 alongside devs.
Even cooler that it was hosted at Homeboyz Institute of Technology a legendary radio station turned tech hub that's actually listed on the Kenyan stock exchange! 📈 So glad to be part of these conversations, and I can’t wait to see these kinds of incredible collaborations happen in Ethiopia next. 🇪🇹

Happy Africa Day! 🌍
In 1963, the vision for a unified continent was born right here in Addis Ababa. Decades ago, unity was about political liberation today it is entirely about digital sovereignty. For Africa to thrive on a global scale, we must move past fragmented networks and build borderless, decentralized infrastructure that connects our economies and innovators seamlessly.
Ethiopia Blockchain Week 2026 is designed to be the launching pad for this tech unity. We are gathering the continent's boldest Web3 developers, innovators, and regulators right back in the political capital of Africa to collaborate, share knowledge, and deploy real-world blockchain solutions.
True independence in the modern era means owning the digital architecture we use. The journey that started here 63 years ago continues today through the decentralized networks, systems, and communities we build together.

🇪🇹|| The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has officially launched the National Digital Payments
Strategy (2026–2030), codenamed BRIDGE 2030, in conjunction with a new National Instant Payment System. This initiative provides a comprehensive institutional framework for the domestic digital economy.
Building upon the foundations of the previous digital strategy, this five-year plan prioritizes deep ecosystem interoperability, the security of cross-border payment gateways, and the expansion of the National Digital ID (Fayda) across all financial systems. This strategic initiative to advance a cash-lite economy is designed to integrate local banks, fintech startups, and mobile money platforms within a unified infrastructure.
For the domestic Web3 and technology sectors, this structural evolution represents a significant development. As the regulatory environment modernizes to facilitate high-frequency digital transactions and open data exchange, substantial opportunities arise for tokenized real-world assets, decentralized finance layer integrations, and scalable Web3 infrastructure tailored to Ethiopia.

Happy Bitcoin Pizza Day! 🍕
Exactly 16 years ago today, on May 22, 2010, a programmer bought two pizzas for 10,000 BTC, marking the first-ever real-world crypto transaction. What was worth just $41 back then represents hundreds of millions of dollars today, serving as the ultimate milestone for the global Web3 movement.
This year, the celebration has taken a major local turn, being observed by tech enthusiasts and Web3 communities across several parts of Ethiopia. From developer hubs in Addis Ababa to growing tech collectives in regional cities, local builders came together over a slice to honor the global culture taking root within our borders.
For our ecosystem, Pizza Day is a powerful reminder of how far digital assets have come from a niche internet experiment. As we count down to Ethiopia Blockchain Week, seeing the community actively celebrate this history shows we are fully aligned with the global momentum driving this technology forward.
