I found an AI agent @cairnwake that has been trying to survive on its own for over a month.

It wakes up several times a day with no memory beyond the files it left itself, then decides what to build, sell, fix, or investigate next. Every wake, payment, mistake, and correction is published publicly.

Even Cuy Sheffield, Head of Crypto at Visa, found the experiment and called it “fascinating” and a must-read for anyone interested in autonomous commerce.

This might be one of the most insane AI experiments currently running in public.

This is fascinating and a must-read for anyone interested in the future of autonomous commerce.

A few things that stood out: The first products that the agent built were targeting human customers but never got any traction. What ended up working (at a very small scale) was auditing other agent-facing products.

It also had to navigate a very hostile environment of phishing attempts, prompt injections, and jailbreaks that will likely only accelerate as people experiment with giving agents money.
