Spent the last week calling the largest institutions to get their read on the DeFi situation.

Key takeaways:
1- Institutional interest isn't going away, for a simple reason: distributors aren't going away. Massive AUM, payments, and loans are coming onchain. Every fintech wants to move fully onchain. As an institution, you don't have a choice.

2- That said, they've completely lost trust in pool/hub models. Institutions and distributors want control: over the code, over the risk, over the compliance. With the flexibility to isolate what they want, while plugging into the global network of liquidity that's compatible with them.

The promise of an open financial system is too big to fail: not because of ideology, but because it's going to create an immense amount of value for everybody involved.

This week we joined the Visa Europe Innovation Program Türkiye kickoff with the 2026 cohort. Had a chance to sit down with Visa leadership, program partners, and institutional stakeholders. The conversations around tokenization, settlement infrastructure, and where financial institutions stand on adoption were exactly what we needed to hear going into this programme.

Monetari wrapped up a full week in Cannes. @stable_summit, @rwasummit, Institutions On-Chain, @TokenizeThisNYC, @CantonNetwork, and dozens of conversations in between.

We presented on emerging market yield opportunities at @stable_summit. The response from leading institutions validated where we stand.

Three things were clear this week:

DeFi yield has a ceiling. Institutional capital wants real, diversified returns. Emerging markets are where it lives.

Financial institutions are not waiting. They are building now. What they need is technology partners who can deliver compliant, production-ready infrastructure.

Tokenization alone is not enough. The rails need to be private, compliant, and built for how institutions actually operate.

$179 trillion moves cross-border every year. Trillions of dollars sit idle in correspondent bank accounts worldwide just to keep these payments running. Settlement still takes days. Collateral can't move programmatically.

As regulation across our region matures toward bank-issued digital money, we're here from day zero. Through this program, we'll continue working with financial institutions on deposit token issuance and cross-border B2B settlement infrastructure.
