5 things that could have been done differently to establish @proof_xyz and @moonbirds as a top 3 Web3 brand.
This is not a criticism of @kevinrose, @JustinMezzell or the team, but rather an exploration of different perspectives.. also hindsight is 20/20.
While all collections have been affected in this market, it's clear that MB has been hit harder than others. We need to be honest with ourselves and not hide behind the externalities.
My strategy is simple: "incentivizing existing NFT enthusiasts to buy a floor MB"
1/ Mythic drop
Mythic should have been dropped to all MB and fully decoupled to nesting tier. There were 0 incentive for people to buy any floor birds as it would take them *at least* 6 months to be eligible for a Mythic egg.
2/ Art Strategy
I am in principle aligned with MB long term strategy to be the PFP for Art lover, but we should also be listening to the market.
Truth is, there isn't much demand for digital art at the moment. This results in zero incentives to being a MB holder: No benefits to have priorities to claim digital arts that do not sell out, where you can buy them cheaper in secondary market.
3/ Nesting rewards
ALL nested MB should have been eligible for rewards instead of trait-specific. "Grail birds" were rewarded 3-4 times whereas many other trait-birds were not. Rewards should be publicly announced prior to drop with some mechanism that incentivize nesting longer (I see you $TALON)
4/ IRL-focus strategy vs digital
The team has spent a lot of resources and time on IRL events, growing the brand with non-web3 related deals. I believe this is a bit too premature for this. We aren't yet a top3 Web3 brand, and there are still la lot of skeptic of NFT/digital arts. The focus should be digital and should be to capture the current Web3 audience, eager for the next Yuga.
5/ Keep things SIMPLE
There have been a lot of experimenting, and more importantly, a lot of complexity by trying to "innovate". Why shying away from simply mimicking successful mechanism? "Great artists steal."
Was told a story this morning about someone being bullied for buying a moonbird. This concerns me for all of web3. When did owning a PFP turn into a war? Big thanks 🙏 to all the moonbirds supporting each other AND other projects.
