@BlazedForReal@anandmehta94265@luanalopeslara@GovKathyHochul What are you even talking about? At least the people making up scenarios where people rig studies to manipulate the market have a logical story for how they are harmful even though I think they are incredibly unlikely. You seem to have genuinely no idea what is going on.
@BlazedForReal@anandmehta94265@luanalopeslara@GovKathyHochul Is the point just "Kalshi bad"? That is all you have managed to say. Kalshi is pretty bad and has lots of markets with negative societal value (sports, especially parlays, mention markets).
Drug approvals are markets with potentially very good societal value!
@BlazedForReal@luanalopeslara@GovKathyHochul It is literally a market on approval. They don't get paid out on whether they THINK it will be approved.
If the market is too small to be informative then it also poses no problem. If it is big, then research firms will take your frat bro's money and correct the price.
@BlazedForReal@luanalopeslara@GovKathyHochul FDA is still making the decisions. These markets provide information to patients, doctors, and researchers. Outside scientists thought simufilam was a scam, but you would have to be a phd to investigate it yourself. It would have been nice to have a market on approval to look at!
@40yardhammer@mnolangray There is no way a one time ~1% transaction tax you paid properly compensates society for exclusive access to that land in perpetuity
@40yardhammer@mnolangray That almost makes sense. You shouldn't be taxed more for a nicer house on the same lot (except at time of purchase), but you should definitely be taxed more for a bigger or more desirable lot that you are inherently stopping the rest of the population from using.
@nfinf5@Noahpinion@avidseries You realize legality is totally orthogonal to the question here right? Jews in concentration camps got all the process they were legally due too.

@mikerecine I on the other hand just signed up for Non-driver ID (plenty of appointments available) and told them actually I want a REAL ID license.
Not a huge deal, but the kind of inefficiency the government tends to have and why I wouldn't want them running grocery stores.
@mikerecine In NJ it is by appointment only and they have fixed stock of each type of appointment even when the same people are doing the same thing for each one. I have friends who have waited months trying to get a Real ID appointment.
@jaycaspiankang@nedoat It is bad to talk about issues that your views are unpopular on. It is fine to talk about issues no one gives a fuck about. People can talk about two things.
@DanielParker_13@NathanpmYoung@deanwball Think the simpler explanation is he has been telling the truth for decades that he thinks tariffs are good and trade deficits are inherently bad and chose a staff that agreed. Up to you whether that makes him a moron, but makes more sense than thinking this is a ruse.
@NathanpmYoung@deanwball What do you find unconvincing about this theory? It squares with his rhetoric for decades and their calculation of the "effective tariff rate."

@deanwball A working hypothesis is that Trump sees everything as a zero sum game. He can't conceive of positive sum trade. Every relationship has a winner and a loser. If the US has a trade deficit with a country, the US is the loser (in his mind). That explains most of his actions here.
