$XMR community,

I know memecoins get a bad reputation, and in plenty of cases that reputation is deserved. There are bad actors, endless rugs, and people who will attach themselves to anything for attention. But that doesn’t mean every meme, or every community around one, is trying to exploit what came before it. Sometimes it really is just people rallying around something funny, making memes and having a good time, with financial incentive attached, as there is with everything from BTC down.

$PHISH is a good example for me personally. I’d known about Monero for years, but I’d never really taken the time to understand it. Then I found a stupid fish that, through these new pairing/reward mechanics, rewards holders in $XMR. I went down the Monero rabbit hole, started learning about it properly, and now I’m stacking XMR myself.

That’s the part I think gets overlooked. Memes can bring completely new eyes into an ecosystem. If $PHISH goes nowhere, Monero is still Monero. Nothing changes. But if a community forms around it and the meme travels, suddenly people who might never have looked twice at XMR are talking about it, learning about it, and potentially owning it.

Bitcoin gets memed every day. Every major crypto does. None of those memes define the underlying asset or take anything away from it.

Sometimes a meme is just a meme.

And sometimes a fish sends you down the Monero rabbit hole.
