With only 40 days left until COP29, the world prepares to gather in Azerbaijan, a country that continues to illegally detain Armenian POWs and commit severe crimes against humanity. Despite positioning itself as a global leader in addressing climate change, Azerbaijan's actions starkly contradict its claims of wanting to better the world. The ongoing detention of POWs from Nagorno-Karabakh and the country's unpunished war crimes demand urgent attention. As COP29 approaches, we must not lose sight of the need for justice and accountability for these human rights abuses. Raising awareness is crucial—global change must start with confronting these realities. #FreeArmenianHostages #JusticeForWarCrimes #COP29

Our recent fact-finding mission identified numerous breaches of intl law by Aliyev's regime in its years-long campaign against the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In @Newsweek, @SheilaPaylan casts light on these abuses ahead of Azerbaijan hosting #COP29 ⬇️

This week, on the somber one-year anniversary of the Artsakh Genocide, the @LemkinInstitute honors Ruben Vardanyan (@RubenVardanyan_ ), co-founder of the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, noted international humanitarian, and former State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, as our Upstander of the Week. Vardanyan has been held in an Azerbaijani prison since he was illegally captured and detained by the Azerbaijani military in September 2023. Despite being subjected to torture he has stood up for himself and his fellow Armenian detainees just as he stood up for the rights of Artsakh Armenians to self-determination on their ancestral land. We salute Vardanyan's courage and urge the world to pressure Azerbaijan to release him and the other Armenian hostages, some of whom have been in Azerbaijani detention since 2020. #COP29 #azerbaijan @UNFCCC
🇦🇲 Next Goal: $200,000 🇦🇲
We would like to thank all our supporters for standing by our side for 294 days since the first attack on our Armenian Quarter -- that's how long we have been guarding our 1700-year-old Armenian Christian presence in the Old City of Jerusalem.
We have been threatened, attacked, and encroached upon, yet our determination keeps on increasing with each passing day.
WE ARE HERE TO STAY! 🇦🇲💪🏼
Having filed a class action lawsuit with over 400 signatories against this treacherous land deal that has endangered our very future and continuity, our legal expenses will only increase as the battle for Armenian Jerusalem commences on a legal front.
Every single dollar is fully allocated to our legal defense.
Help us reach our current goal, donate now:

Today is Bedig 'Katch' Giragossian's birthday.
Today also marks 280 days since the first attack on the Cows' Garden.
Katch has been guarding our Armenian Quarter since that fateful day.
Not a single day has passed that Bedig hasn't slept in the barricaded encampment.
A very happy birthday to our hero!💪🏼🇦🇲
In light of the historic West-Russia prisoner swap, which freed 16 American and European citizens, we are reminded of the ongoing plight of the POWs held in Baku. CFTJ urgently calls for Azerbaijan to follow in Russia’s and Belarus’ footsteps to release the remainder of political prisoners and POWs.
Let this serve as a powerful reminder that diplomacy and negotiations can bring about justice and freedom. We urge the international community to continue advocating for the release of all unjustly detained individuals.
CFTJ has published numerous reports based on testimonial evidence of repatriated POWs, which can be found on our website.

“…the int’l community continues to whitewash Aliyev's crimes. In the same year that Azerbaijan was designated one of the most repressive places on the planet […], Azerbaijan was chosen to host the annual global climate conference, COP29, this autumn. This is a disgrace.”

Re-posted with caption correction: Azerbaijan is detaining 300 political prisoners, including an unknown number of Armenians (51 have been identified by name).
The @LemkinInstitute calls on the @UN to withdraw support for #Azerbaijan as host of #COP29.
Azerbaijan is a genocidal state run by a president who routinely expresses genocidal ideology towards Armenians, including referring to them as dogs, jackals, and terrorists. Azerbaijan is currently illegally detaining an estimated 300 political prisoners & refusing to release them, including eight members of the elected government of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). Some detainees have been subjected to torture.
The international community must reject the normalization of genocide and genocidal ideology and withdraw support for Azerbaijan as host of COP29.
