🇫🇷 #TourAuvergneRhoneAlpes - Stage 4
🥉 1u | Braet (29)
🥉 1u | Pacher (61)

Stage 4 of the Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a tricky one to predict. It could easily go either way: a successful breakaway or a reduced bunch sprint.
The route features several climbs throughout the first half and middle section of the stage. While none of them are exceptionally steep or brutally difficult, some are long enough to put pressure on the pure sprinters and potentially leave a few of them struggling to stay in contention. However, the final 30 kilometres are mostly flat and before includes a long descent, making it possible for teams to bring things back together if they commit to a chase.
That's why I expect teams with fast finishers to take responsibility. In particular, Jayco-AlUla should be interested in controlling the break and setting up a sprint opportunity for Michael Matthews. Matthews appears to be in very good form, looks sharp on his return, and this kind of stage suits him perfectly. A victory would certainly not be a surprise.
That said, my pick for the stage is Arnaud Goudon. Admittedly, he lost a significant amount of time on Stage 2, which was unexpected, but he delivered a respectable performance in the time trial. Perhaps he has simply been saving energy for stages that suit him better. On paper, this profile fits him well, and I'm curious to see what he can do. He gets my vote for the stage win.
I was very close to selecting Michael Matthews, though. He looks capable of delivering a huge result here and could very well return to the winner's circle.
Another rider worth watching is Finn Fisher-Black. He has been sprinting impressively while also climbing well. Fisher-Black won the peloton sprint on Stage 2 and should be highly competitive again on this terrain.
As for Wout van Aert, he doesn't appear to be at his very best at the moment. Even so, his class demands respect, and he remains one of the favourites for this type of finish.
Other riders who could feature prominently, either in a sprint or from a breakaway, include Benoît Cosnefroy and Quinn Simmons. If the break does succeed, riders such as Ivan Romeo, Raúl García Pierna, Baptiste Veistroffer, Matteo Vercher and Andreas Kron are all interesting names to keep an eye on.
And if it does come down to a sprint, it will also be interesting to see what Bryan Coquard and Phil Bauhaus can produce in the finale.

Dauphiné st2:
- Lars Craps t3 x151: 1pt (Unibet)
Has dealt with a knee injury last year & has gotten the same injury on his other knee this year.
Now, he's back and seems to be in good shape. He's got a huge engine, so tomorrow could be a nice one for him out of the breakaway.
#TourAuvergneRhoneAlpes 🇨🇵 - Etape 2
⭐️⭐️⭐️ van Aert
⭐️⭐️ Godon, van Gils
⭐️ Fisher-Black, Romeo, Cosnefroy
