@northerness In debating it is callled the ad hominem fallacy - "ad hominem" means "to the man", i.e. to attack the person rather than what he or she said.

@LBC @NatashaC The rhetorical trick here is to compare apples and pears: "skilled immigrant" vs. "average Brit". How about comparing the "average immigrant" with the "skilled Brits"? In debates one should always look out for comparisons that are valid.

@benonwine Nobody "runs" for Prime Minister of the UK. Candidates stand for Parliament and people vote for their member of Parliament. And then the King appoints a First or Prime Mininster to form His government based on the majority of the House.

@ElijahSchaffer AH did NOT eradicate Communism: in fact a communist regime, The Soviet Union, won over the German forces and the National SOCIALISTS lost. They were competing socialistic ideologies, but H and the Nazis lost. Supression is not victory. You win by winning the argument.
