In the 1937-1938 Polish Operation, the NKVD charged 140,000 perfectly innocent people with absurd crimes and murdered 111,000 of them.

2 September 1924 | Polish Jew, Jozef Fidelman, was born in Warsaw. He emigrated to France.

He was deported to #Auschwitz from #Drancy on 24 July 1942. He did not survive.

Maria Vetulani de Nisau, a Polish patriot who fought for Polish independence in 1939, was one of the #WarsawUprising insurgents.

She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt ghetto on 28 Octoberr 1944. She was most likely murdered in a gas chamber after arrival selection.

#OTD in 1944,31-year-old messenger, Irena Niklewicz was murdered alongside the staff & patients at the Central Surgical Hospital in the Old Town during the #WarsawUprising. She had been wounded on 25 August during the defence of the Polish Security Printing Works and taken to the Central Surgical Hospital. Her husband Leszek was killed on the same day she was injured.
They were married in July 1944, just before the outbreak of the Uprising.

September 3, 1919 | Sam Weinreich, a Polish Jew, was born in Lodz.

His mother and several siblings died of hunger in the Lodz ghetto. In 1944, he was deported to #Auschwitz.

Sam survived, and today he celebrates his 104th birthday!
