VIDEO | With the Asian Games in Japan and the build-up towards Olympic qualification looming on the horizon, Indian shooter Esha Singh is aware that expectations will continue to rise. Yet she remains committed to keeping things simple.

"As I said, for me, our sport is very simple. We have to aim and we have to shoot. The biggest challenge is in our heads. I don't want to change anything. I'll just do my best to execute the same things," she said.

Rather than focusing on distant targets, she prefers to take each competition as it comes.

"I'm going to take it one step at a time. There are always big titles and major competitions, but one finishes and another begins. It's a continuous loop."

"As I said, the names keep changing, but what you have to do doesn't change. You just have to keep executing what you've been doing in training."

Despite frequently competing against each other for podium places and finals spots, she says support within the squad remains strong.

"I think shooting is an individual sport, not a team sport. But since we're together so often, I think we have a lot of mutual respect for each other. And I'm very sure we're always there for one another if someone needs support," she said.

She added that while technical discussions often remain personal, the camaraderie is genuine.

"We're all very supportive of each other. We travel together, we look out for each other, and I'm really grateful for all the girls on our team."

VIDEO | Indian pistol shooter Esha Singh says the disappointment of missing out at the Olympics has played a key role in shaping her into a mentally stronger athlete, a transformation she believes is behind one of the best phases of her career.

The 21-year-old Hyderabad shooter capped a memorable ISSF World Cup campaign in Munich with a gold medal and world record in the women's 25m pistol before adding a silver in the women's 10m air pistol, helping India climb to the top of the medal standings.

"I had a lot of pressure, obviously, because you don't really know until the last shot what is going to happen. So I can say that I fought till the very last moment. And yeah, I didn't let loose or become overconfident, thinking that I had already secured the medals and that I was good. Nothing like that. I wanted to give my absolute best on that day, and that's what was going on in my head," Esha said.

The first Indian doubles pair to win the Singapore Open, the former world No. 1 duo came back from a game down to defeat Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 in a 73-minute final on Sunday.

It was the pair’s third Super 750 title and came after a period marked by injuries, four final defeats, and eight semifinal exits.

“I wouldn’t call it inconsistency. On the contrary, I think we were quite consistent. To call the world No. 3 pair inconsistent, I think everybody beyond No. 1 should stop playing badminton,” Chirag said.

She says, "I am very grateful to the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court for granting permission. That is why I was able to compete on the mat today; otherwise, they would not have allowed me to compete on the mat under any circumstances. From the very beginning, I have maintained that the result should be decided on the mat, who is better and who is not. The decision was biased. I want to train so hard that even those who are cheating will be left behind. I want to improve to such an extent that, despite their cheating, they will not be able to defeat me. I will continue to work hard, train even harder, and perform even better."
