You can’t do that when every promising youngster you have leaves before signing a pro deal. Compensation to cover training is not incentive.

However, in the last few years since the Category one status the balance hasn’t been quite right. We have consistently lost our most promising players that the club would envisage in the first team.

They don’t do it to watch their best talents walk for the sake of a little compensation, they do it because it only takes one top talent to stay and we’ve produced a very valuable asset that covers the running costs and more.

When a player is being pushed up age groups and continuing to thrive you know they’re special, especially when Arsenal are sniffing around. There’s a long list of top prospects we’ve lost in the last few years and it’s ever growing
