@ggreenwald Who cares. The whole discourse is just horrible. Platner has great ideas and would be a million times better than anyone else in the race. Let’s not take the bait and focus on the policies.
@Go7Suarez@ryangrim You can elect the perfect human and get 6 years of a corporate Democrat, who changes nothing. Or you can accept that people are fallible and get a candidate that actually stands for something.
@Go7Suarez@ryangrim There are a few hundred hours of his speeches, podcast appearances, and so on. If that is what it looks like when someone has PTSD, depression and alcoholism then that is the definition of high functioning.
@AlexDR3D@mtaibbi I was a paid subscriber to Useful Idiots and really liked it. Matt had Aaron Mate sub for him while he was working on a book. Matt kept his name on the podcast for a very long time but never came back. I definitely did not sign up for Aaron Mate.
@mattyglesias When you ask for 2 costs that are too high and hit personally, you will always see childcare at the bottom. A relatively small portion of people are exposed to that cost compared to food and gas. That doesn't mean that a program to subsidize childcare has no political support.
@ggreenwald CA takes a long time to produce a final tally because it expanded voting access via mail in ballots. In US elections, the elected candidates are not sworn in for a few months. An election night deadline for results is arbitrary and only serves the media who need a story.
@kenklippenstein Karl Rove perfected the modern political campaign where candidates picked a few wedge issues to keep their base in line and then slung mud and did op research to find scandals. Actually running a campaign focused on big policy positions is kryptonite to that kind of campaigning.
@ryangrim Had Dems worked as hard as the RNC in their autopsy, the result would always be that Dems need to run more to the center. When essentially letting the same people who screwed it up try and figure out what went wrong., they will always skew results to their favor.
@ggreenwald Trump is a product of the 70s & 80s. Iran and Cuba are for Trump the two villains from that period that got away with it. Iran humiliated the US with the hostages. Cuba by holding on to socialism after the fall of the USSR. Trump wants to be the president that took them out.
@mcmansionhell No film has ever come close to portraying the egos and conflicts in a professional orchestra. Cate Blanchett is beyond amazing in it. Only problem was her conducting for the beginning of the 2nd mvt of Mahler 5. That was more like semaphore than real conducting.
@ggreenwald True. But it is also true that the podcast world has devolved into a closed loop of preferred guests whether on the left or right. It just isn’t as fresh or interesting as it was 10 years ago.
@mtaibbi This is how defense attorneys defend rapists. They use fact that the victims have serious mental health issues and use the outward manifestations of mental illness to undermine the victim's credibility. When a journalist does the same thing, it is bias.
@mtaibbi Boomers ignored climate change and doubled down on fossil fuels. Boomers ran up massive budget deficits to fund wars for oil. Boomers gobbled up big houses with cheap money and now refuse to move out to let the next generation buy homes and get special property tax treatment.
@daveweigel Tim and Eric being accused of pro pedo rape and torture films by a crazed right winger is something that you would only expect to see on an episode of Tim and Eric.
@WarMonitor3 Buena Suerte. But many of Spain's illegals are from Central and South America and integrate very easily. It is a different situation and the benefits of making them citizens to support population growth may be preferable to the cost of trying to deport them.
