The skeletons in the Education Ministry’s closet are tumbling out fast and furious.
Today, we learn from the @htTweets that COEMTP submitted two cybersecurity certificates to CBSE to satisfy the tender’s cybersecurity requirements. It is now reported that both these certificates were tied to other clients. One of them had expired (it was nearly two years old when submitted by COEMPT) and the other was audited as a temporary application rather than as an application in a production environment.
The CBSE, instead of calling out this deception, awarded the contract to COEMPT at inflated rates.
As we now know, Gen-Z ethical hackers had exposed critical flaws in cybersecurity all the way back to February 2025 – which the CBSE denied until it could no longer do so. In fact, in a final admission that COEMPT’s portal was irretrievably compromised, the CBSE has now stopped using COEMPT’s platform and built its own website for the re-evaluation process.
If the Mantri Pradhan’s Ministry had shown more integrity in organizing the CBSE exams, the On Screen Marking (OSM) system, and the revaluation process, we could have avoided this whole debacle which has stressed lakhs of students and their families.
Mantri Pradhan’s continuation in office only speaks to his shameless desire for power. He has been totally exposed as an arrogant and incompetent hack running a deeply compromised Ministry.
turns out AI models cannot do math.. even grade school math. the kind a 10-year-old solves.
Apple published a devastating study that exposes a massive illusion at the core of artificial intelligence.
they took the standard math benchmark (GSM8K) that every AI company uses to brag about how smart their model is.
first, they just changed the names in the word problems.. the models' performance fluctuated for no reason.
then, they changed the numbers. the performance immediately dropped.
but then they ran the test that broke everything.
they added one single, completely irrelevant sentence to the word problem. something like: "By the way, 5 of the apples were green."
A human 10-year-old ignores the green apples and solves the underlying math.
the AI didn't.
across every state-of-the-art model, performance collapsed by up to 65%.
the AI blindly grabbed the irrelevant number and tried to shove it into the equation. it didn't know why it was doing the math. it just saw a number and assumed it was supposed to use it.
there is no genuine logical reasoning happening under the hood.
we are deploying these systems to run our finances, analyze our legal documents, and make complex strategic decisions.
but the models don't actually understand the logic they are spitting out.
they just know what a smart answer is supposed to look like.
In a democracy, if there is a power imbalance, those in power needs to always be kept in check, people in power needs to be held accountable, nothing can be arbitrary, every decision needs to be convinced to people, and call criticisms needs to be listened and addresses.
Outstanding reportage on the CBSE issue from @MeSanjayy, and good of the HT to put it as the front page second lead. It deserves this importance.
We essentially have a PR & propaganda machine masquerading as the union government. From Sindoor to CBSE, their only weapon is PR.
Nisarga, a Class 12 student, claims he hacked CBSE marking portal, warned board earlier
“I could change teachers’ names and their phone numbers. I could see their emails. I could enter bank details. I could even change the marks on the sheets assigned to that teacher. That was the scariest part of all,” — Nisarga (ethical hacker) speaks exclusively to @Sonal_MK

Was the NTA chief part of the BJP IT cell or RSS shakha prior to this?
They think all people are idiots like Modi Bhakts to issue statements like this and get away with their crimes.
A Wharton economist ran a randomized controlled trial on almost a thousand high school students in Turkey.
The result was so brutal for the AI-in-education narrative that it had to be peer-reviewed by PNAS before people would believe it.
Her name is Hamsa Bastani. She teaches operations and information at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and the study she published in 2025 alongside her co-authors is one of the cleanest experiments anyone has run on what AI actually does to learning when you remove it from the equation and check what is left.
The setup was a randomized controlled trial, the same methodology used in clinical drug trials. Nearly a thousand high school math students in Turkey were split into three groups and put through four sessions of ninety minutes each. One group practiced with GPT Base, a standard ChatGPT-4 interface that could answer any question directly. One group practiced with GPT Tutor, a version of the same model that had been prompted to guide students with hints rather than hand them the answer. One group practiced with nothing but their textbook and their own head.
During the practice sessions, the AI groups looked like a miracle. The GPT Base group solved 48% more problems than the students working alone. The GPT Tutor group solved 127% more. Every administrator looking at those numbers would have written a press release about the transformative power of AI in education and moved on.
Then the actual exam came, and AI was not allowed.
The students who had practiced with GPT Base scored 17% worse than the students who had practiced alone. Seventeen percent worse, despite having solved nearly half again as many problems in the sessions leading up to it. The students who had struggled the most, who had sat with the confusion and worked through it without a tool to rescue them, were now the only ones who could actually do the math when it counted.
Bastani's team read through the chat logs to understand what had actually been happening during the practice sessions, and the answer was exactly what the exam results had already implied. The GPT Base group had not been learning. They had been extracting answers and moving on, and every moment that felt like understanding was actually the model doing the cognitive work while the student's brain waited for the next problem to arrive. The paper describes it precisely: without guardrails, students attempt to use GPT-4 as a crutch during practice, and subsequently perform worse on their own.
The detail that should follow every conversation about AI in education is the one buried in the post-test survey results. The students who had relied on AI the most during practice were also the most confident they had understood the material. The tool had not just failed to teach them. It had convinced them they had learned something they had not, which is a different kind of failure entirely and a much harder one to correct because the student has no idea it is happening.
The crutch had made them confident and weak at the same time.
CBSE's revaluation nightmare has stretched into a third straight day, with Class 12 students and parents battling crashing portals, failed payments, unreadable scanned copies and growing fears over evaluation quality. Amid JEE, NEET and CUET pressure, many say CBSE's rechecking and post-result process has turned into a mentally exhausting mess.

Deer @dpradhanbjp,
Nice to meat you!
Every year NEET students prepare for eggsams. But BJP leaders buys the question papers and inshure that every child in their family becomes doktor.
At this point, NTA stands for National Tamasha Agency. The only thing leaking faster than question papers is the kredibility of your ministri.
Please re-sign and get lost before the next scam arives with grace marks and technical glitch.
Tank you!
Democracy doesn't mean people will elect the strongest or smartest leaders, that's not the point of democracy, democracy means that no matter who comes as people's representatives, they will have to listen to people, implement measures people want, and always be held accountable
So first screw up the evaluation and reduce students' marks so that they will be forced to pay the exuberant amount for rechecking their papers, new #CBSE_Scam
🚨Some who shamelessly attempted to defend the Chief Justice’s comments talked about the misuse of RTI and PILs. Sure, but accountability flows both ways.
What does the “system” that Chief Justice Kant is so concerned about do when frivolous PILs are filed? How many cases of judges imposing costs on such PILs? What did the “system” do in the Yashwant Verma case? Was a FIR filed after tons of burnt cash disappeared by the dawn? So does not such a system merit thorough public scrutiny and critique?
