Like all of you, I am utterly stunned and heartbroken and sick to my soul today. It is unimaginable to write these words. I met Charlie Kirk when he was 18 years old, a young man so eager and determined that I immediately turned to a friend and said, “That kid is going to be the head of the RNC one day.” Charlie became even bigger and more important than that. But more importantly, Charlie was a good man, a man who believed in right and wrong, who stood by his Biblical values. All of us will miss him, and I can’t imagine the pain of his beautiful young family, and we must all pray for them. And we must pick up the baton where Charlie left it, fighting for the things he believed in so passionately. And we must fight for a better America - an America where good people can speak truth and debate passionately without fear of a bullet. I weep for Charlie’s family, and I weep for my country today. Last, but not least: McMinn Central girls 🏀!

First… I’m honored to watch Dakota Stone make his head coaching debut with the Chargerettes. What a deserving head coach that I already see making an impact on these girls!

This year’s Central squad will look different on the court and bench. But reasons for optimism! Thoughts on some players in particular:

Malea Masingale — undeniably high ceiling these next two years. Elite two way guard. Colleges in the area should be all over her.

Alahna Powell served as the sixth man for the Chargerettes last year and will now be called on to bring some legit scoring as the second option.

When Maddie Kirkpatrick returns from her knee injury… she’ll be in obviously important cog as the point guard for this team.

Millie Latham and Lilly Arwood are going to be extremely important starters with defined roles. Latham is a unicorn guard with legit size and IQ. A little confidence can go a long way because she can score the basketball.

Arwood will be one of the tallest bigs in the area which provides an obvious size advantage against most teams.

And then these last few scrimmages I’ve seen of them… freshman Abbie Plemons is a really big X factor. She’s not afraid to shoot it… And her shot is pure. Fellow freshman Emma Wilson had a couple big games that I saw this summer too.

Kristen Faulkner (@FaulknerKristen) has one of the craziest stories at this year's Olympics:

• Grew up in Alaska
• Rowed at Harvard
• Moved to NYC after school
• Started working for a venture capital firm
• Took a beginner's cycling class in Central Park
• Started cycling at 5:00 am before work
• Started competing in local cycling tournaments
• Quit her job & moved to California to cycle full-time
• Added to the USA road cycling roster one month before the Olympic Games

And now, just seven years after taking a beginner's cycling class in New York City, Kristen Faulkner has won gold at the Olympics in Paris — the first American to win gold in the women's road race in 40 years.
