▪️모델 (mo-del) ~ model.

Literally, “애착 모델” translates to “attachment model”or, more naturally in context, “a model one feels attached to.”

But understanding the individual words is only the first step. To understand the nuance, we need to look at how Korean speakers use
애착 in everyday life.

• What does 애착 actually mean in Korean?

애착 describes the emotional bond someone develops with a particular person or thing. It can express a feeling of fondness, closeness, or being especially attached to something.

Think about owning dozens of hoodies but always reaching for that one particular hoodie. It's old and worn out, yet you never want to replace it because it feels familiar and comforting. That's the kind of attachment 애착 can describe: not simply liking something, but feeling particularly connected to it.
The same word can also describe attachment to a person. You may know many people, but there can be someone you're especially fond of and feel emotionally connected to. That's why 애착 carries a nuance of attachment and emotional connection, rather than simply meaning “favourite.”

In Korean, people commonly use expressions such as:

🐻 애착 인형 ~ a beloved or comfort stuffed toy.

•Then, what does “애착 모델” mean?

“애착 모델” is not a standard, fixed Korean expression with one universally established meaning. It combines 애착 and 모델, so a possible interpretation is “a model someone feels particularly attached to”or “a model they are especially fond of.

If the phrase is being used to describe a person in a particular post, the wording may suggest that the person is not simply being referred to as an ordinary model, but as someone the speaker feels attached to.

• Why are people interpreting it as “cherished model”?

The word 애착 carries more emotional nuance than simply liking something. It can suggest a bond that has developed over time, a sense of fondness, or a particular attachment.

•What about Jungkook posting Taehyung's photos?

👤 I once met the mother of one of the BTS members, we talked for quite a long time. At that time, BTS was just about to enter the U.S. market, and their popularity in Korea was beyond description. I had very little interest in idol groups, so to be honest, while talking to her, I didn’t even know how famous BTS was. And because of that, I didn’t know what that member looked like either. But the story she told me about that member’s childhood still stays with me. Later on, I came to realize that, that BTS was THEE BTS.

“When he was in elementary school, I’d send him off to go to school, but then the school would call. They’d say he was late. So when he came home after school, I asked him why he went to school late. And he told me that he was late because he was looking at the flowers on the street, and watching ants crawling, and insects, and all kinds of things… and he would even talk to them.”

She said she never scolded the boy to hurry to school; instead she told the teachers, “That’s just the way my child is, so as long as he makes it to school, please just let him be.” I remember thinking both the child and the mother were special. This is not an easy way to raise a child. But I don’t know whether he became special because he became a BTS member, or whether he became a BTS member because he was already special.

These thoughts suddenly came to mind just when I felt like I should go to bed.

But honestly, even to me, BTS really is incredible. I hope they continue to have a positive influence.
