I defended Capitalism as a concept for most of my life. I've got an 830ish credit score, a good steady job, my wife works. We own our cars outright. No credit card debt.

I am invested in the system. I want it to work the way I have been promised since I was a tiny little capitalist.

Imagine my surprise when none of it matters because Venture Capital was allowed to use big data tools to swoop in and turn the American Dream into an investment opportunity for the rich.

Capitalism didn't turn around and say "Hey, now, Blackrock! That guy, he's one of us, cut him some slack and leave his neighborhood alone". Capitalism has no such loyalty.

Capitalism didn't prevent the consolidation of power of Meat-Packers into a Big Four that can control and manipulate the price of meat in our country. Nor did Capitalism prevent the offshoring of jobs and factory work, or the consolidation of Big Tech, Big Pharma, and the venture capitalization of doctor's offices and veterinarians.

Capitalism didn't speak up when the Fed decided to print infinite money, or adjust rates up or down based solely on the political affiliation of the President at the time. Capitalism just let the printers go brrrr.

Loyalty to Capitalism doesn't prevent my elected officials from committing insider trading and securities fraud; it just lets us all invest alongside them, albeit later and with less insider information.

Loyalty to Capitalism means opposing every possible tool that would be used to fight back against the system in a peaceful, organized way. Boycotts? Unamerican. Unions? Communism. Government Intervention to actually break up or prevent monopolies? Why do you want China to win?

For the record: Communism is trash. It won't work because people are corrupt, and the corrupt will always rise to power and abuse the system to their own benefit.

But it isn't as if the nature of mankind somehow changes if Capitalism is applied. Capitalism is also trash. It won't work, because people are corrupt, and the corrupt will always rise to power and abuse the system to their own benefit.

We had a good run of pretending that Capitalism was the cheat code, the superior system above all other systems, and that it was also infallible and not subject to the same limitations as every other system mankind has devised to run its economies.

But we are in the end game now, we all see it for what it is, and while the refrain from the American people is still "Capitalism, capitalism, rah rah rah", its a bit weaker now. More halfhearted. An echo of what it once was.
