@Nosferatu246 I feel like it's just a less poignant rehash of Part 1's ending, with Denji internalising all of Makima's lessons, but with Nayuta representing hope that they can both grow past it in the future. Genuinely don't know what the point of part 2 was
@FormerSoulKing Hopefully his replacement can at least approach his level of ambition, the one consolation we have is that this MAPPA production line is great at picking bold series directors like Nakayama, Yoshihara and Gosso himself
@Nosferatu246 I didn't think any anime could capture the detached feeling of JJK's second half, but Gosso's done it. Look how he handles every emotional beat. It's got this fleeting, blink-or-you'll miss it vibe, as if the viewer is just watching glimpses of someone else's life flash by
@FormerSoulKing It's also 100% reflective of the Zenin clan's incestuous tendencies, too. It feels like she's been programmed to view romantic attraction as the highest form of familial love, and she's imparting it here to Maki, instead of the men she was groomed to marry
@Aleczandxr It's wonderful, but I think you'd like the manga even more. Tomoko Yamashita's use of visual language is second to none, and it heightens the story's emotions so much
@FormerSoulKing It definitely feels like Maru and Cross are meant to be two opposing halves of a dialectic. Even their names (Maru means circle) could refer to the circle and X from tic tac toe
@FormerSoulKing Him seemingly taking over Mei Mei's body is such a cool way to depict how Mei Mei herself viewed their bodies as a resource to be extracted, I love it a lot
@Nosferatu246 Goes back to the body/soul problem from JJK: the body, using the world as a canvas, creates the conditions that give the soul form. But when there's only one world, and multiple souls out there with different needs, the scarcity of space for self actualisation leads to conflict
@Nosferatu246 It's less that the worship of Kalyans is flawed, and more that different races' contrasting perceptions of Kalyans produces conflict. The Rumelians' third eye leads them to view the world differently, and to seek to shape the world in ways that clash with the people around them
@MondayMonke@ShaKing807 There seems to be some structural adjustment too, though. JJK and CSM have different animation producers now, which can only be an improvement
@ShaKing807 Yeah, this is always going to be speculation, but from what I've heard, they've split up JJK's and CSM's production lines, and JJK S3 has a much healthier production than the S2 catastrophe. Only time will tell, though
@psychewritesbs@kanime769 Tbf, a lot of those authors (not including Gege) had also previously defended Watsuki personally and argued for a light sentence, so I get why the two incidents are often muddled together in a lot of people's minds
@psychewritesbs@kanime769 He didn't. He (along with most prominent WSJ authors) drew art commemorating the 30th anniversary of Rurouni Kenshin, whose mangaka (Watsuki) was convicted for possessing CSAM. The criticism makes sense, although it could just be a "support the art, not the artist" situation
@psychewritesbs The manga has barely 20 chapters left, and she's got 6 months to live. It's nowhere near a given that she's going to die on screen. If anything, her impending death, and the perspective it offers her on the ego, makes her so much more interesting
