We will be keeping it on its own private plot in the same location and not subject to political or personal pressure. My wife and I alone will control its security and safety for future generations to see. Johnny Rodriguez was a pioneering figure in Nashville. Crossing ethnic stereotypes to sing and entertain all who wanted to hear his beautiful voice. All he ever wanted to do was sing. This will make sure future generations will know who he was and where he was from. Raul, if you are up there, know that many of us enjoyed your music and it gave us great memories. God Speed 🙏

What an INCREDIBLE day at the Plaza Planning Event in downtown Sabinal!

The photos truly do not do it justice. The amount of people who attended — and the constant steady flow of community members throughout the event — was absolutely AMAZING. Seeing so many citizens come out to share ideas, opinions, and visions for the future of our downtown was inspiring.

A huge thank you to Matt and Simple City Design for hosting such a fantastic event and helping guide this important planning process. Community input is critical because this plaza project is not just for today — it’s for generations to come. As long as Sabinal is here, this plaza will be part of our community’s story.

Thank you as well to Hon. Cindy Casburn, Merill Family, Rhianna’s Shaved Ice, Mil Veranos Winery, Town Makers Members, and Keep Sabinal Beautiful Members for helping make this important event such a success.

Last night, I had the honor of being sworn in to serve another two years as Mayor of Sabinal, Texas—unopposed.

I want to sincerely thank my family, friends, supporters, advisors, mentors, neighbors, and the people of this community for their trust and continued support. Being entrusted once again to help lead my hometown is something I do not take lightly.

Seeing a standing-room-only crowd at the meeting was truly humbling. It reminded me that people believe in the vision we have for Sabinal and the progress we are working hard to achieve together.

Our vision is simple: continue building a stronger Sabinal. A community that is welcoming, forward-thinking, family-oriented, and positioned for growth and opportunity. A place people are proud to live in, invest in, work in, and visit.

There is still a great deal of work ahead of us. We are currently rolling out over $2.5 million in major infrastructure investments and projects focused on improving quality of life for our residents. From streets and water infrastructure to youth spaces and community development, we remain committed to addressing the real needs of our citizens while planning for the future.

As I mentioned in my remarks, we are not going to be perfect, and neither am I. Challenges and mistakes will come along the way, but every decision we make is rooted in a genuine desire to do what is best for the City of Sabinal and its people.

Like many individuals involved in public service, I balance several responsibilities outside of city government, including my full-time career, higher education, board service, and other professional commitments. However, serving the people of Sabinal will always remain one of my highest priorities, and I remain fully committed to continuing the work ahead.

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving this community that has given so much to me.

It’s with great bitter sweetness that I announce after May 11th, I will no longer be the Youngest Sitting Mayor in Texas.

This week, I had the opportunity to visit my good friend, Mayor-Elect Adam Ramirez (25) of Wilson, Texas.

With his upcoming swearing-in, Adam will be taking over a title I’ve proudly carried for a little over a year and a half — the youngest sitting mayor in Texas.

It’s truly been an honor to hold that title. I’ve always tried to carry it with humility, professionalism, and purpose — and I hope in some way it showed other young people that there is a place for them in public service.

Adam and I go back to when we were both newly elected city council members. We met at a conference in Austin, just two young officials trying to learn and serve our communities the right way. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow as a leader.

During his visit, several of our outstanding City of Sabinal staff took the time to visit with him and share insight into how we operate and serve our community. A big thank you to Amanda Schmidt, Judge Cindy Casburn, Diana O’Connor, Stacey with Public Works and Officer Eddie Cruz for representing Sabinal so well.

Adam also joined us for our meeting with Alex Meade, giving him a firsthand look at the partnerships and projects we’re working on with Texas Department of Transportation.

He’s a good man, a friend, and someone who will do an outstanding job for the City of Wilson. I have no doubt he’ll continue to inspire the next generation to step up, get involved, and serve.

The City of Sabinal continues to make meaningful investments in infrastructure, with a focused effort on improving local streets.

By leveraging city financing, Sabinal has partnered with outstanding local contractors to begin addressing one of the community’s most consistent concerns—pothole repairs. The results so far have been strong, with work already completed on portions of several streets and more underway.

While these improvements may not be a permanent fix, they represent important progress. Like many rural communities, Sabinal faces challenges from aging infrastructure, heavy rainfall, increased 18-wheeler traffic, and daily wear and tear that impact roadway conditions.

Pothole repairs serve as a necessary and effective short-term solution as the City continues working toward a long-term goal: passing a bond to fund comprehensive, lasting infrastructure improvements.

Work will continue across the city in the coming weeks as crews expand efforts to additional areas.

Today, I want to recognize and thank our incredible Utilities Clerk, Diana O’Connor.

Diana is often the first voice you hear when you call City Hall and the first face you see when you walk through our doors. She represents the City of Sabinal with professionalism, kindness, and a welcoming attitude every single day.

Behind the scenes, she carries significant financial responsibilities—helping manage accounts, processing payments, and keeping our utility operations running smoothly. Her role is critical to keeping our city running efficiently.

She’s also someone I, along with our staff and City Council, rely on regularly. Diana is always willing to help and always ready with the information we need.

Diana, thank you for your dedication, your hard work, and the pride you take in serving our community. I truly appreciate everything you do for the City of Sabinal.

PARK RESTROOM UPGRADES COMPLETE 🚻

We recently replaced the toilets at our city park after realizing the previous ones were outdated and no longer meeting the needs of our community.

In addition to the upgrades, a resident who graciously accepted the task to help the city, completed a deep clean of the entire restroom facility to make sure everything is in great shape and ready for use.

We’re also exploring the possibility of adding an additional stall to the women’s restroom to better serve families and visitors.

Everything at the park is now up to date and ready for our community to enjoy.

It’s up to us citizens to do our part to take care of what we have!

There were several small but meaningful/impactful upgrades to the park that I will be sharing throughout this week!

Last night in Sabinal, our city Council voted to approve a MOU to work with and be trained by ICE officers so we can futher support @ICEgov @DHSgov

Another productive City Council meeting for the City of Sabinal.

I had the honor of recognizing Ms. Mackinzie Wells with a proclamation declaring December 3rd as her day for her achievement as a State Powerlifting Champion. We’re proud of how she represents our community.

We also received our annual audit from Coleman, Horton and Company LLC, which resulted in an “unmodified” opinion—the highest level of assurance. While minor budget adjustments are needed, this reflects our commitment to responsible financial stewardship and protecting taxpayer dollars.

Council approved resolutions declaring April as Autism Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, reaffirming our commitment to supporting and protecting the children and families of our community. Thank you to Irene Stone from the Bluebonnet Children’s Advocacy Center for the important work being done in our region.

We discussed the possibility of natural gas rate increases from West Texas Gas. While no formal notice has been received, we will remain transparent and take appropriate action if needed.

The City also voted to join a 391 Commission alongside Kinney County, Uvalde County, and the City of Uvalde. This commission provides direct access to state resources and will focus on addressing the impacts of the Howard-Solitce powerline project.

We also submitted another grant application aimed at strengthening our fire department and enhancing public safety across eastern Uvalde County.

Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, Border Patrol and ICE. Strengthening coordination between local and federal partners and providing additional resources for public safety. I will proudly sign this Memorandum of Agreement.

Water conservation remains a top priority as we face drought conditions and Edwards Aquifer restrictions. The City continues repairing leaks and investing in infrastructure to conserve water and improve efficiency.

Finally, we recognized Councilwoman Lupita DeLeon for her years of service and dedication to Sabinal. We are grateful for her impact on our community.
