This is where I’m at with Spurs now.
The defence has been addressed. Now I want to see what the plan is in midfield and wide areas.
Give me one proper controller and one winger who can actually scare a full-back, and suddenly the whole window starts to make sense.
Doesn’t have to be the biggest name. It has to be the right profile.

The Vuskovic situation is one I really hope Spurs handle properly.
I get why clubs would be interested. But if we genuinely believe he’s elite potential, I’d rather create a pathway than cash in early.
You can sign Van Hecke and still keep Vuskovic. You can improve the present without sacrificing the future.
That’s what good clubs do.

@JimOhSoSpurs I've been saying the same thing. It's a model to follow, albeit a very frustrating one as a fan having to endure the arduous build towards it.

I get why Brighton and other fans are annoyed, but this is a strange way to frame it.
Spurs haven’t suddenly been handed money. They’ve spent years building the revenue base: stadium, commercial growth, matchday income, NFL/events, global profile.
That doesn’t excuse every football decision. It doesn’t mean the owners are above criticism.
But if a club builds the platform properly and stays within the rules, surely that should be the model to follow?
Especially when the league has had City under investigation and Chelsea fined over historical payments.
This feels less like Spurs ruining the league and more like Spurs finally getting some reward for playing the long game.

serious serious issues in the premier league right now
clubs like spurs are ruining the league
perfectly happy at a club that just got european football but instead he goes to a team that finished 17th two seasons in a row, has horrible owners and no european football
I like Tonali. I really do. You can see why De Zerbi would want him. He’s intense, technically secure, experienced, and he can help Spurs play through pressure rather than just survive it.
But I don’t think Spurs can afford to make this window all about one midfielder. If the price gets silly, there has to be a line. That doesn’t mean “lack of ambition”. It means having a proper plan.
There are other midfield profiles Spurs should be looking at too. Someone like Locatelli gives you control and experience. Lamine Camara gives you energy, progression and room to grow. Alex Scott would be more of a development-plus-upside option. Even someone like James Garner makes sense if you’re looking for Premier League experience, technical security and tactical reliability.
I’m not saying they’re all better than Tonali. But good recruitment isn’t just picking the best name. It’s knowing the profile, the price, the role and the knock-on effect.
Tonali would be a brilliant signing. I just hope Spurs are smart enough to have a Plan B, C and D. We all know far too well how many times we have put all of our eggs in one basket before.

Brentford away to start.
Feels awkward more than anything. Not the worst opener, but definitely not one you just casually tick off either.
The first few games looks manageable enough though, so no real complaints.

Fixtures out at 10.
This season does feel different. New manager, new structure, probably a heavily changed squad.
A kind opening month would be massive.

I’m happy with the way Spurs have started the window.
Robertson, Senesi and Van Hecke all feel like players with a clear purpose rather than random opportunities. The defence looks like it’s being reshaped for De Zerbi.
The next signing tells us whether the whole team is being reshaped properly. Midfield has to be the one.

Spurs fans, what would you prioritise next?
Tonali or another elite midfielder?
Savinho or another 1v1 winger?
Goalkeeper competition>
Striker?
Another full-back/defender?
For me, it’s midfield first.
The whole De Zerbi structure depends on that player being right.

One thing I really hope Spurs don’t do this summer is block the pathway of their best young players.
Signing Van Hecke makes sense.
Keeping Vuskovic makes sense too.
Those two things don’t have to contradict each other. If the club genuinely believes Vuskovic is elite-potential, then you don’t cash in just because there is interest. You create a route for him.
The best squads don’t just buy well. They develop well too.

The Fit Check: Sandro Tonali
I completely understand why De Zerbi would want him.
Tonali gives you intensity, control, security in possession and the ability to play through pressure. In this system, that matters.
Spurs don’t just need a destroyer in midfield. They need someone who can receive, turn, connect and dictate the rhythm of the game.
That’s why the fit makes sense. The issue is the price.
If Newcastle’s valuation is anywhere near £90m–£100m, then Spurs have to be very careful. Not because Tonali isn’t good enough, but because one signing cannot become the whole rebuild.
For me, Tonali is a brilliant fit. But the question isn’t just “would he improve Spurs?” Of course he would.
The question is whether Spurs can sign him and still fix the winger, goalkeeper and squad depth issues around him.

After yesterday’s Van Hecke noise, the next question is obvious.
If Spurs are building a defence designed to play through pressure, who is the midfielder receiving the next pass?
That is why the No.6/controller signing feels so important.
The centre-backs can start the move.
But the midfield decides whether it actually becomes control.
