Well, this has sure been a journey, my friends. I cannot help but wonder what the future will bring and how many more explorers will take the route we did. One thing's for sure, I can’t wait till we finish our grand mapping project, but for now, farewell! #chirikovout
What’s crazy is that we came back to the reign of a completely new empress, Empress Elizabeth, a sister of Anna. She’s very enthusiastic about mapping what we found and employed me to do all the work — I’m extremely excited to work for the crown again!

I’ve heard that ever since they learned about the natives in our far east, our vodka companies want to expand their trade. I wonder to what that’ll lead…

The otter pelts that Bering’s crew brought are the real star of the show — they’re now considered the finest fur in the world! I’m sure the ones who brought them will get rich in no time!

I’m incredibly proud of all the professors and crew members who joined both Bering and me on this great journey! We learned so much about the nature of the country we live in — as well as valuable trading information for the future!

Well, it's been a year, and we're finally back in St. Petersburg! We've had quite a few losses on our way, like the genius Georg Steller, however, we managed to keep a larger part of our initial crew. I'm just happy we managed to get this many home safely.

The people of southern Siberia still are different than us, but they seem much more accustomed to our ways. I never really thought about it this way, but do the far eastern Siberians not get that many tourists?

We're officially down in Irkutsk! We haven't encountered much wildlife earlier, only a few hares and foxes, but now... it's mid spring and all we keep seeing are frightening bears and hundreds of weasels...the tundra sure is beautiful!

We have begun travelling back. We've sailed back to Okhotsk, collected a little supplies and went on dog sleds back to Yakutsk. We have to gather supplies there before moving on to the southern route in order to avoid the harshest winter.
-below is Yakutsk as we saw it
It has been a few weeks since the crew has been recovering, but we must soon return to St. Petersburg! We've gone so much over budget and have left so long ago that I'm not sure what welcome we'll get!

I have terrible news: the great Vitus Jonassen Bering, or Ivan Ivanovic, as he is known in Russia, has perished on his journey of exploring the unknown seas of our north. His crew, malnourished and exhausted, has brought back tales of wonder and otter pelts.

It’s near the end of 1742 and only now the St. Peter have returned! Gotta go out to meet with them and Bering, surely they have exciting news!

Just for the ones who don't know what scurvy is -- it's a disease caused by the lack of sufficient foods (not sure which ones though yet). Sailors who contract this are most likely bound to die, so it's important to always have a lot of food and hope for the best!
It's October of 1741 and we're back in Petropavlovsk -- Bering doesn't seem to be back yet. My crew's exhausted, a few had caught scurvy during the journey from lack of adequate food and perished. We will miss them dearly.

We've turned back to head back to Russia -- our supplies are running low. We're not exactly sure what this new land is, but one thing is for sure -- there is no da Gama land, or other fictitious land mass in between Asia and the new continent.

UPDATE 2.0: I know that the we were supposed to wait, but…we left. More food for us anyways from the little we have left.
#theyreprobablydeadanyways#sorrynotsorry
July 15, 1741 will be an incredibly important date in our history! My crew has officially sighted land, and one that we have never seen before! I sent out a group of men ashore in a long boat, however they haven’t returned for a very long time…
#worriedbutexcited#newland
UPDATE: I sent a second unit of crew members to report and tried to find the first one, but it’s been a day and neither have come back. What should we do? We could wait, but we have very little food left, or leave and risk that they aren't already dead...

June, 1741
We set sail a few days ago. Today the fog is thick and we can’t see the St. Peter…we’re continuing to sail east, however, just as we had planned earlier.
