Another article came out talking about the mass honeybee die off. Feeding, treating, over management and lack of diverse foraging habitat is the problem. Its not rocket science. Why do bees like these survive on their own?
@markzyi That’s in the hands of the bees I guess. The beautiful thing about not buying Bees is that if they do die out, you haven’t really lost a bunch of money. I’m pretty much always guaranteed to get a swarm the following year. Free bees are the best Bees.
I have 1 box solar hive that I open once a year August 14 without fail and harvest a few bricks of honey for my family. Apart from that I never open it, never treat or feed it. It’s in its second year now. The logs are in place to provide habitat for bees to swarm to. They in turn generate swarms (free bees) I encourage people never to buy bees. As for harvesting bees in Spring you’re unlikely to find much honey then. Best wait until July/august.
Hi. I only harvest when the log dies out. Usually this happens around December and January which is perfect because there are no robber bees and the frameless honey is easy to deal with. This log produced 32 mason jars of honey and was pressed with a Marchisio press. This was the first time opening the log hive. Now it’s ready for swarm of bees in 2025. I’ll
Post a video of the video interior of the nest layered in propolis.
I was recently called a Neo Malthusian for simply stating the elephant in the room “8 billion people, people.” Mass agriculture, chemicals, and engineered food is the only way to continue to feed 8 billion people and more. I like @elonmusk idea on becoming an interplanetary species. However, he advocates for increasing population. If this is our future then maybe earth becomes home to the Uber rich. 😉 I highly recommend reading up on Thomas Malthus.
