Dear parents and young students. Please listen to this one minute clip from one of the most successful human beings on the planet. What a wonderful phrase by Nvidia $NVDA CEO Jensen Huang: "People with high expectations have very low resilience. Resilience matters in success...I don't know how to teach it to you except for, 'I hope suffering happens to you'..greatness comes from character & character...is formed out of people who suffered..I wish upon you ample doses of pain & suffering"
Too often parents are busy protecting their children from suffering. But suffering and failure is what builds resilience. Success and much of greatness in life is earned in overcoming failure. Failure is the greatest teacher. Failure is only failure if you give up, otherwise it's a learning lesson and a stepping stone on the way to success.
We need to make our children anti-fragile. Not every kid deserves a trophy. That's a BS Leftist, woke ideology that destroys progress. We need to teach our children to fall and get up and fall and get up again. The blessings of a scraped knee.
There is an epic story in Genesis, where Jacob struggles with a dark force in the middle of the night and ends up being injured. What's fascinating is that Jacob refuses to let go until he is blessed. Rumi says: "The cure for your pain is in the pain." This is a central teaching in Judaism. Don't curse your struggles. Don't despair. Leonard Cohen: "There is a crack in everything and that's how the light gets in." The lesson of Jacob is that when life attacks you and breaks you- you don't give up, you don't ignore it. Instead, you confront it and find the message that will bless you. Where you are broken is precisely where your strength lies. I would say the most important lesson in life- and the biggest sign of maturity, and perhaps your very mission on this earth- is to turn your pain into your strength through which you bless others.
Teach that to your kids.
This is definitely the Season of giving back. Great job Uplift Education for partnering with the Melville family foundation to serve meals to several hundred families in need. It’s all about giving back and serving! #volunteering#uplifteducation#MelvilleFamilyFoundation
