We recently celebrated National Technology Day @ccmb_csir through an exciting workshop by @AIC_CCMB "Frontiers beyond academia".
Got to learn the nitty gritty of entrepreneurship and challenges faced by new founders!
It was fun teaming up @SohailMansuri97 for the activity.
We recently hosted DAGAR Workshop on “Frontiers Beyond Academia" at CCMB.
The workshop focused on entrepreneurship, innovation & translational research with discussions on venture creation, innovation journeys & funding opportunities.

Cancer isn’t just “bad cells”—it’s a breakdown of control inside our body’s tiniest units.
As tumours grow, invade tissues, and spread, they become harder to treat—and more deadly.

Feeling grateful and proud to have organised the felicitation of Prof. Balu🌟
What began as an idea became an unforgettable experience. Stories 📖, wisdom 🧠, laughter 😄, and genuine smiles 😊.
Every step showed the power of collective effort 🤝. Truly worth it! ✨
A wonderful celebration of amalgamation of science and art @ccmb_csir
We had our 10th founder's day celebrations, had fun taking the lead and organizing the two day event.
The Founder's Day celebrations have been a blast. The alumni felicitated Prof D Balasubramanian & we went back three decades with them. Our students spoke on their new ideas. @bertyashley's quiz made science fun for us. And a fete that reminds us we are more than our lab skills.
Celebrating a 110-year-long legacy of knowledge sharing, value inculcation, and preservation and promotion of India’s knowledge traditions—complemented by advancement of modern education, research, & innovation.
Greetings on 111th Foundation Day of #BanarasHinduUniversity.

On the occasion of national startup day, I had an opportunity to moderate an engaging discussion on entrepreneurship and biotech startups at @ccmb_csir.
Click on the link to hear the conversation.
Today is National Startup Day. But most of us are only aware of the IT startups. Biotech startups function very differently. This conversation with @nalamrao57 and Sudharshan Reddy, Founder of @oncosimis will take you through the lay of the land:

Proud to volunteer at @ccmb_csir Young Innovator Programme 🌱🔬.
Great experience interacting with young students and exploring the world of genetics and biotechnology together!
Thanks @SomdattaKarak, Archana Bharadwaj Siva.
Thanks @adityaundru and Vijay.
Rain or sunshine, CCMB's Open Day tradition continues. Thousands of visitors, largely students, came in despite the festivities and heavy rain. We are humbled by the trust educational organizations place on us.

This is a part of our new series of public discussions with our PhD students, the lab experimenters.
Cancer is unfortunately a household name now, and immunotherapies like CAR T offer promise. But how do these therapies work? Priyadarshini Singh explains these reminding how immune systems do more than killing pathogens.
Here is your weekend read:

Yet another wonderful experience of sharing my learning with others. I thoroughly enjoyed the curiosity and questions of all the participants of the skill development program.
Attended by PhD students, early career researchers and college faculty members, the skill development program on Basic Techniques in Animal Cell Culture trains in different cell culture techniques & cell types + workflows, lab safety, experimental planning & troubleshooting.
Introducing the CCMB Microscopy Course. Happening 8-12 Sept. Registrations are open now!
This is for all things at the cutting edge of light microscopy - from sample preparation to image analysis.

See the article below in @Nature titled:
"How many PhDs does the world need? Doctoral graduates vastly outnumber jobs in academia".
A flawed surmise to begin with.
In my opinion, the real issue isn’t about too many PhDs. It is about why people are doing a PhD in the first place. #PhD isn't to become a university Professor. The article misses on this point.
For many today, a PhD has become a backup option - a way to extend a visa, avoid a jobless period, or simply stay in academia longer without clear purpose.
When curiosity and passion for research are no longer the main motivators, we end up with a growing number of PhDs and a shrinking set of meaningful outcomes.
At BITS Pilani, we sensed this shift two years ago and began reimagining the PhD ecosystem. We launched differentiated tracks to align with the aspirations of today’s PhD scholars:
𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗔𝗖𝗧 (Industry Mentored PhD in Advanced and Cutting-edge Technologies) for those aiming at industry careers
𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗗𝗥𝗜𝗩𝗘 (Deep-tech Research, Innovation, generation & Entrepreneurship) for aspiring deep-tech entrepreneurs
𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗢𝗦𝗗𝗣 (Overseas Doctoral PhD Programme) to bring cultural and academic diversity
𝗖𝗼𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗗𝘀 with some of the world’s leading institutions
These are in addition to our regular PhD programmes. We have also established a dedicated 𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 within BITS to assist scholars in finding both industry and academic roles.
These innovations are showing big results. Application numbers are rising. Scholar satisfaction is improving. We are seeing a clearer alignment between motivation and outcomes.
The world is still stuck with a one-size-fits-all model of PhD education. It’s time institutions start thinking beyond tradition.

With Priyadarshini Singh at Lamakaan this Friday people discussed everything from growing cells in the lab, what goes on in cells and personal stories of their loved ones suffering from cancer.
Thanks @lamakaan for enabling such a public engagement. Our next session in Aug end.
Who hasn't heard of cancer relapse a few years after chemotherapy! We will have Priyadarshini Singh explain us what really goes on with cancer cells when chemotherapies are on. Come to @lamakaan on 27 Jun, 7pm on.
