Taking on a project, working out the challenges, and seeing it through to completion over an extended period of time is a valuable life skill. Here we see cadets making repairs to our 3d printer in January 2025.

Music exists in different forms from local levels upwards, allowing cadets to showcase individual talent and demonstrate the power of the team. Photo of the National Concert Band, taken in rehearsal at RAF Cranwell, summer 2023.

Underpinning all of our practical activities is a syllabus of classroom training in subjects as varied as principles of flight, navigation, and leadership. Photo taken this week during one of our twice-weekly meetings.

Whilst each cadet gets to fly in both powered aircraft and gliders, older cadets can get the opportunity to undertake further training. At the time of publishing, we have one cadet who has just done her first solo, and one who is close to completing his first instructor rating.
First aid is a life skill, and something which can be of use on cadet activities or as members go about their daily lives. This is why it forms a part of every cadet's induction. Photo taken at the squadron in 2024.

With us having just under a week until our recruiting night, we thought we'd showcase this video that our cadets put together as an introduction to new joiners.

Camping and expeditions are part of our Adventurous Training offering. Before the cadets can do this though, they need to learn the basic skills required. Here we see cadets learning to cook a meal with a camping stove at the squadron during autumn 2024.

As a part of the Knaresborough community, of course we’re going to take part in the Bed Race! We help setting up at the castle top early on the morning of the race and assist with the parade of dressed beds. This picture shows the squadron's team crossing the line in 2024
We are strong believers in the benefits of sports, whether that is a kickabout on the back field or representation at higher levels. This shot shows cadets in August 2024 when we ended the summer break with a multi-sports competition evening.
Ceremonial engagements are one of our most visible things we do in the community. Expect to see cadets out for Battle of Britain (September) and Remembrance (November) and occasional one-off events like D-Day last year.

Marksmanship is an important part of cadet training. It teaches discipline, accuracy, and physical skills. Here we see cadets taking part in an inter-squadron air-rifle competition during 2024.

In 1987, our current CO was a young cadet at RAF Leeming, taking his first flight in a chipmunk. He loved it so much he bought some merch. Now, after nearly 35 years, he's dropped it. To add insult to injury, it was still full of coffee.
On Friday evening, the CO was harnessing his inner "Nicholas Parsons" to chair the final round as the cadets took part in a confidence and public speaking exercise based on "Just a Minute".
Today we hear that the real Mr Parsons has passed away. Sad news.
