@ClarkeMicah My Dad died as unbelieving Catholic , I dont know if they let lapsed Catholics leave.
What's all this 'communion' lark then that seems so important to RC's? Surely that requires some form of membership?
Can I just convert to Catholicism without bothering a priest?
@DavidGr08051597@ClarkeMicah@TobyJoyce14 I totally agree with you. You have shown beyond a doubt that H8 did not die a member of the RCC.
I am sure that it is impossible to shift PH from his position. We will eventually tire of correcting him and he will assume he won the argument.
@StDog8@ClarkeMicah@holysmoke I think l used up all my guilt and fear when I was young. I am grateful that I believe in God , it makes me happy. When I feared God I despised Him. I don't think I'll ever be contrite again.
@ClarkeMicah@DredinBabylon I am not a member of any church and I have no amazing desires. Just a respect for historical facts. And your insistence that H8 died a RC when he clearly didn't is probably down to some 'amazing desire' of your own.
@ClarkeMicah@DredinBabylon What we gave here is a debate about historical facts. I am not RC. By not recognising the Pope's authority H8 left the political organisation known as the Roman Catholic Church.
Happy to do so, .@dredinbabylon. What we are debating here is the amazing desire of English RCs to avoid an unquestionable historical fact about the breach between Henry VIII and Charles V. It was political, not religious.
@ClarkeMicah@DredinBabylon Maybe it was but you can't separate Religon from politics. The Pope was a political leader as well as a spiritual one. Getting out of RCC in the 16th C was like Brexit. By not recognising the Pope's authority Henry Brexited himself out of the RCC.
That's just history.
@DavidGr08051597@ClarkeMicah Being an outsider i find it interesting how so many laymen in the Church think they know better than the Pope.A bit like Henry Viii. I need to catch up with my friend to see how things are turning out. I don't think his current wife will be pleased. She is not religious.
@StickelTedward@ClarkeMicah@holysmoke Why would having a female heir invalidate the marriage? The only good argument he had was that he married his brother's wife. I don't know why that wasn't accepted at the time.
@StickelTedward@ClarkeMicah@holysmoke I am not a Roman Catholic. She did become pregnant and gave birth to Mary. Henry definitely had sexual intercourse with his Catholic wife.
@StDog8@ClarkeMicah@holysmoke It was Graham Green who gave me the idea of repentance as a lifestyle. I think my heart isn't that sorry about my sins so l could have intellectual regret but no real repentance. I wonder if I can divorce my heart?
@prsb58@ClarkeMicah@BruvverEccles@holysmoke Henry made the Catholic Church in England unRoman so we use that term rather than just Catholic as the CofE claims to be Catholic , just not Roman Catholic.
