From the media launch to the academic conference, the Prayer Walk, the June 16 march and the Youth Summit on the Hill, preserved the legacy of 1976.

This may mark the end of our Youth Month programme but it is not the end of the journey.

What does 1976 mean to young people today?

We commemorated 50 years since the 1976 student uprising, honoured those who came before us and symbolically completed the journey they began.

Some doubted the youth would come.

We did not.

We believed that the story of 1976 still matters. Most importantly, we believed that young people still care about the future they will inherit.

Mr Seth Mazibuko spent the day at St Stithians College: Girls and Boys ... Both schools signed a Pledge on the 50th Anniversary of June 16.

Soweto once again became a meeting place for generations united by history, hope and purpose. To everyone who joined us, thank you for making this commemoration one to remember.

The march is over, but the responsibility remains.
