I kept a Top 5 music chart during the mid-1980s and here it is, each week posted 40 years after the fact

Billy Joel's album The Bridge was his followup to 1983's An Innocent Man. It did ok, but not nearly as well. The first single A Matter of Trust was more guitar driven than his usual stuff. I liked it anyway. I never saw this video! https://t.co/8SqJ2AjuQv

Moving up from #4 to #3, Timex Social Club with Rumors. Namechecks Michael Jackson, and Susan Moonsie from Vanity 6. The first verse about Tina is apparently some girl he knew in high school lol https://t.co/rrRGrI04Ic

Wrap It Up by the Fabulous Thunderbirds was a good cover of Sam & Dave, at the time I'm sure I thought it was an original https://t.co/brRmyIZcOW

Dream Time is a song I haven't heard in 40 years I would bet. Listening to it now I'm like ? At least for one week I heard it a lot and liked it. It went to #5 on Billboard but it fell off my chart after a week so it didn't make much of an impression https://t.co/ThgtvPQBKl

Missionary Man by the Eurythmics comes in at #5. The video was pretty interesting. Annie Lennox as an S&M robot? She kinda gets 3D printed at the beginning too https://t.co/vDhvmQooZn

Berlin had a huge hit (it went to #1 I think, on Billboard) from Top Gun with Take Your Breath Away. This week it's at #3 on my list (it didn't make #1) https://t.co/C5QsxWefzm

The Pet Shop Boys followed up West End Girls with Opportunities (etc...) which made the top ten and #4 on my chart. The original mix was from a year earlier and sounds pretty good (first time hearing it) https://t.co/Lg74lq1bLp

Belinda Carlisle's first solo hit Mad About You hits #3 on my chart, the same position it peaked on Billboard. I dont remember the cigarette at the beginning of the vid, surprised Mtv let that in there https://t.co/ryCs3MGzpO

The Moody Blues had a lot of hits in the 80s, a lot more than most 60's bands. More than almost ANY 60s band other than maybe the Rolling Stones. The Other Side of Life went to #58 in 1986 https://t.co/7Ou9jwZcHg

Here's a forgotten song: Captain of Her Heart by Double. What ever happened to them? Looks like they disbanded in 1987 so not long after CoHH made some brief waves (it went to #16 on Billboard). Love the atmosphere of this song https://t.co/9vxd80qKoF

John Cougar Mellencamp, still in the transitional period between Johnny Cougar and John Mellencamp, jumps in at #2 with one his is trademark straighforward rockers, which he wrote with ease. It's a lost art, a rock song that rocks but isn't metal or punk https://t.co/dOmwFqnhV9
