@DrEilidhMaria My base salary as an ST1 was just over £40.5K. I assume this is including London weighting too then so the average salary will be even less than these figure suggest?
@xolisajane Fully support your outrage. Try being a doctor where everyone thinks they can do your job better than despite having no idea what it actually entails 😂 so many people describe themselves as "basically a doctor"
@alienfromzog @Dr_BellaR If someone is prevented from entering for example a locum year or a specialist training post which (may) lead to salary increase (I took a pay cut from F2 to ST1 Ophthalmology) despite being equally competent as their peers, more training time is a crazy justification
☢️I kid you not, fully qualified Doctors (F1s) are not allowed be OSCE examiners in Medical school.
A random dude (Physician Assistant) with 2-year degree can oversee training of Doctors+PAs of any stage.
Bizarre
@pepemac27 This always baffled me. In my experience, the relationship you have with nursing teams as a foundation doctor is generally inversely proportional to the quality of a doctor you are and the accuracy by which you prioritize tasks
@dgraemestewart @emergingcannula @NHSHandSan I house the homeless, disabled and those fleeing war torn countries and include healthcare services within my accommodation by collaborating with charities etc. I believe I have probably positively impacted more people through housing than as an Opthalmology trainee.
It always confused me when colleagues weren't equally outraged by the ridiculous amount of unpaid hours required to revise for compulsory exams which are essential for career progression
@DrEilidhMaria I once had a complaint put in about me by the nursing team for not prescribing it an evening on call when they requested. Clearly documented rationale. The psychiatrist thanked me for not prescribing it the following day. Massive need for education on indications and risks.
@oli_m_sims Wait until speciality training where you have so many hoops to jump through, exams to take, interviews to attend, and a job to accept...all before knowing what you are going to be paid
@NHSHandSan Glad my story has resonated with some of you guys. Make sure you have several exits and don't rely on NHS as a long term career. Ill be marching alongside you for pay restoration (and more)
