TPL: Multinational publishers (Hachette, HarperCollins, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster) have made it much harder for libraries to lend ebooks, limiting how long we can keep ebook copies. We have to re-buy every 2 years, paying 4-6 times the print price. 3of3
Like the music industry, book publishers seem to be flapping around trying to pretend they can maintain their old business models. Grow up. We still love to buy but eBooks make sense for public libraries and their readers who can't afford to buy books.
Shame on intern'l publishers for introducing policies that severely limit the ability of public libraries to provide eBooks to their readers, not only vastly increasing prices, but forcing them to licence again every two years. 1 of 3. https://t.co/FvxdlaGz0l
Perfect. Trump pulls out of #ParisAccord; fossil fuels remain U.S. priority. #WexitAlberta should join U.S. Not sure what they'll do about health care or how they'll look grandchildren in the eyes, but, hey, money is more important than saving the planet, right?
That man -- who I think of as SayAnything @AndrewScheer -- caught in a no-integrity-here tactic. He is alleged by the CBC to have paid for a campaign to harm M. Bernier. I hope people are seeing the real @AndrewScheer now and vote accordingly.
For once, not a whine but praise for the patient, excellent service this morning @mildredstemple. The only downside? Get there at 9 to avoid the line ups. Worth the wait, though.
Worser and worser. @amazon ships via @Purolatorinc. I get a VM "apt entry # required". Why when name is on package & lobby directory? I fone in code. Told delivery tomorrow. Then amazon emails "sorry we missed you" but call to Purolator says delivery not attempted. Yikes.
@ElectionsCan_E chaos when voting advanced poll. One station with two persons serving a long line up while four others at 2 tables sat idle. Meanwhile eight or more officious people floated around the room; their sole purpose seemed to be to make people form a straighter line.
Home sick with a cold, tuned into a @PBS @WNEDTV Midsomer Murders episode, Black Book, about an art college. I can't believe my eyes: a nude portrait and a life model are blurred out. I have to ask Why? And, most, who are you people? Very un-PBS.
It is a peculiar world. You can send a gift from Canada to someone in the U.S. by ordering from @amazon ... unless you want to send an e-book. That you cannot do. Where's the logic?
@FoodNetworkCA, off the rails. Anna Olson, the only great FN chef/host, is relegated to 6am. The rest? Fake competitions, idiot hosts at diner/dives showcasing fatty, salty food (have you seen the size of the patrons?) or Pioneer Woman, the Donald Trump of food programs.
Dear @CBC: Many want to watch entertainment/news on a television screen, not a computer. Many less-well-off Canadians have older TVs. ROKU devices - about 1/4 the cost of AppleTV - open the world of streaming to these people. But CBC Gem doesn't work on ROKU. Why?
Quick trip to the newish @bulkbarn in Bloor West Village for unsweetened baking chocolate. They don't have any unsweetened chocolate. They don't carry it. Hmmm... Not the go-to for baking supplies I imagined. There are bigger BulkBarns so I'll give them one last try.
More on @Learn4Life. The phone number given said I can register Feb 15 for classes that start in March. Then the 22 minute hold. eMail also said all libraries have the brochure for summer classes. They don't. What have we learned? @TDSB is a mess when it comes to adult ed.
Know why they call it @LearnforLife? Because that's how long you sit on hold waiting to get a question answered by the @TDSB customer service number re adult education programs. Got an email saying the summer brochure is on line. It's not.
